5.0 out of 5 stars Best book ever on photographic lighting, August 25, 2010

This review is from: Lighting Techniques for Photographers (Paperback)
Norman Kerr has managed to do what no other author I have run into has been able to do: teach photographers the basics of lighting (which is after all the photographer's basic tool and stock in trade). Usually books on photographic lighting are crammed with detailed recipes, telling you where to put the main light and where to put the fill and the hair light and so on. That's fine, but it doesn't teach the photographer the subject of lighting. WIthout a basic understanding, you're not going to get the photos to look the way you want them to and you're not going to know how to use light effectively.

Norman Kerr has managed to cover the basics in a small book. All the necessary understanding is there. You won't need recipes after you study this book. You will look at each lighting situation you encounter and know how to deal with it because you have a basic understanding of photographic lighting.

I cannot recommend this book enough. It is how I learned photographic lighting at the start of a successful 25 year career as a pro photographer
