Very exceptional resource on early Israeli Judaica,

This review is from: Lighting the Way to Freedom: Treasured Hanukkah Menorahs of Early Israel (Hardcover)
From kitsch to true works of art, this book documents all of it with vivid photographs and meaningful explanations. This is one of the finest resources out there on early Israeli metalwork and Judaica. Not only are the works of the more familiar makers included, such as Oppenheim and Maurice Ascalon's Pal-Bell, but the creations of dozens of lesser-known and obscure makers are included as well, which adds to the books utility. Collectors and enthusiasts have been waiting for this for a long time.

A major breakthrough,
This review is from: Lighting the Way to Freedom: Treasured Hanukkah Menorahs of Early Israel (Hardcover)
A pioneering reference in the area of art known as "Israeliana" that is growing fast in popularity.
A photographic masterpiece of painstaking research. A well crafted catlogue and analysis of menorahs and chanukias produced by artisans, designers and craftsmen from early Israel (1940's - 1970's). This quality work is the main reference source for anyone interested in the history of Israeli metalcraf and design. An absolute must for anyone interested in history of Israel, Judaica and art from the Middle East.

I gave this as a gift to my sister a year ago and she liked it very much. This year I purchased a hanukkiah on ebay that was pictured in this book which she loved, and now she appreciates both gifts even more! The text describing Hanukkah's history, it's connection and relevance to the modern State of Israel, and the contemporary conflict between America and the forces of darkness in our world is inspiring... "Let there be light", and there is more with this publication!

This review is from: Lighting the Way to Freedom: Treasured Hanukkah Menorahs of Early Israel (Hardcover)
The book is known for its photos of menorahs made in Israel from 20 years before through 20 years after the creation of the state. The pictures are extensive with descriptions provided. The commentary is informative. The reader can see how menorahs picture historical events from statehood to freedom after the Holocaust. The menorah mirrors the history of the state. The book is a great teaching tool for those who want to learn more about this art form.

This review is from: Lighting the Way to Freedom: Treasured Hanukkah Menorahs of Early Israel (Hardcover)
This is the first major work to focus on the history of early Israel, from the 1930's through 1960's through the beautiful images created lovingly by pioneer artists and craftsmen. From the first waves of immigrants, through the Holocaust and early days, to the blooming of a free democratic state, the book inspires and awes.
