Very Thin, Very Light, and Very Absorbent. Those are the good qualities. They are a little stiff when dry and I recommend soaking and drying them before your first use so that they are more towel like. In the end, what you are buying is more like a sheet of gauze or a very thing sponge. I could certainly see how these would be useful for camping and/or traveling, if they held up. These are made from a material that I have previously seen used for disposable finger towels in restaurants. It's not a very durable material and ordinarily I would say these merit 2 to 3 starts as towels.

Now, onto my big complaint and the reason for only giving these 1-star. The packaging claims they are machine washable, but on their first trip in the laundry machine, they shredded. I was a little worried that they might not last very long, and this just confirmed it. They didn't completely disintegrate, but the fibers separated throughout most of the towel and I would certainly not buy this product again unless I was planning to only use it once, or for one trip. Definitely treat these like the disposable towels that they are.

I needed a light, inexpensive, and compact towel to send to day camp with my kids. My daughter, who is only 5, carries a very small backpack and I wanted something that would fit along with her lunch and bathing suit. I also figured there'd be a good chance the towel would get lost, so I didn't want to spend a lot of money. The Lightload Beach Towel is the perfect solution. It takes up very little space. Because the beach towels are full size towels, I even cut it in half for my 5 year old and it's still plenty big; my 8 year old takes a full size one with him. And if the towels get lost it's not a big deal - I bought a few extra. I highly recommend these towels!

I decided to make my bag a carry on and save space on a beach towel by purchasing this item. It worked perfectly, because it saved SOOO much space. Plus on the way back I just threw the towel out, so I wouldn't have to bring it back expanded. My only problem with the towel is that is so thin that it feels like a paper towel. I had wished I had a normal towel since I spent so much time at the beach. So generally don't expect this to be a lush beach towel. Also, you have to get it wet before you can use it, lucky I had thought of that at the hotel the night before. This item is amazing if you need an emergency towel with you, but cant spare the space.

I don't know what the manufacturing process or key ingredient is for producing these towels, but I was very disappointed to find they reek of chemicals when you take it out of the little plastic container. I haven't even tried the towel yet because I feel like it needs to go through the wash (and maybe a few good thunderstorms) before I can get near it. Bleh.

I liked them because of the light weight but I wish they were more stylish or at least to be able to pick the color. Still a good buy and be carefull when you take them out, my husband ripped one a little (no big deal) but just so you know. I live very close to the beach and they don't take much space to have them always in my car for my kids and their friends along with some bathing suits,

You can spend a lot of coin for a synthetic fiber backpack towel or you can buy this one. Same quality as the others great price.

The picture doesn't look like the actual item which feels and looks more like paper. I wouldn't buy it again.

1.0 out of 5 stars shredded in the wash as well, September 27, 2011
This review is from: Lightload Beach Towels (36x60"full Size) The Only Beach Towels That Fit in Your Pocket (Misc.)
I was stoked when i received my large beach sized towel. the material is very thin cloth like terry cloth? i took it to yosemite and used it okay, and then i got back and tried to wash it. i didn't know they weren't washing machine safe. it shredded and i had to throw it away. like i tried to wash a roll of thick paper towels. just torn up into hairy fibers :(

maybe i missed the memo. i dont remember reading anything about special washing instructions. it said to "machine wash very gently" what they mean is HAND WASH

DO NOT ATTEMPT MACHINE WASH

Fans of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy know the single most important item to always have with you when you travel is a towel. In these days of having to pay to check luggage, many of us just use carry-on, so this towel is perfect. Yes, it seems fragile; yes, you need to wet and dry it before you travel; and yes, you might want to only hand-wash it.
But it is absorbent, fast drying, and takes up little room. This slides into a narrow spot in your carry-on and is available to take to a beach, to augment hotel's towels, and to help in wringing out the clothes you wash when traveling.
No, this is not a fluffy, heavy duty towel. When you first expand it, it just seems like a high quality paper towel, but it is much more. Yes, this is remarkably absorbent, dries in a few hours (wring it out, then hang it out), and is a perfect traveling companion for all your jaunts around the galaxy.
