Editorial Reviews

Providence, RI duo plays stripped down drums & bass of form destroying, shapeshifting thunder using delicate tools to kill very large creatures. Long & elaborate in its power w/surprisingly delicate moments

2.0 out of 5 stars ehh.., July 13, 2004

i LOVE lightning bolt, but i have to say that this album doesn't display their talent very well. if you don't own any lightning bolt records, i strongly reccomend purchasing "wonderful rainbow" or "ride the skies", rather than this one. this album is a lot more experimental than their newer work, and comes off as kind of sloppy.
i am all about noise-rock, but this album didn't really do it for me. if you do intend on buying this one though, expect bad quality recordings, mediocre songwriting (for lightning bolt, that is), and a 32 minuet song made up of noises and random effects.

5.0 out of 5 stars WTF, May 18, 2004

I can't believe no one's reviewed this record! All the lightning bolt records are great, they are essential when I'm traveling. This record though, I'm most attatched to, first ride the skies, now, this one. I dunno buy it, it's a great place to start?

5.0 out of 5 stars ...yesterday I went into the woods and there were two pink guys...I think they liked this album..., June 9, 2008
This review is from: Lightning Bolt (Audio CD)
...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....mmmm....mmmhmmm...yeah...this album isn't like their later work where there is much more cleaner in production and any natural feedback is recycled into the haber process so that it can be reused by the two amazing pixies of this band to play at such an overly loud level...the compositions are simple and yet their expermentalism in the later work came from how alien they could sound while still being sound barrier breaking loud...that is when they matured...but as of their music I liked them when they were more immature...this being the example...

...very long tracks (longest is over half an hour) random cheering in the background to make it seem live with random talks of philosophy in between the at first glance white noise with a fly buzzing away at the tremor like bass wrecking the tranquil forest of their world...over and over again...

...it is truly a strange experience and very loose production in contrast to what they do later on...this could be classed as something that stoners listen to...but you know what I say? Random white noise has limitless possibilities of what it means...in fact...I am going to turn on my TV and switch to a channel that doesn't exist...

WARNING: Do not buy if you liked the previous work for it's structure and danceability or you will be very disappointed...
