5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner! July 28, 2011
By JH-V
Format:Kindle Edition
A well written story that you can't put down (do you still say that when you're reading on a computer?). Mofina describes his characters in a way that makes you want to know more about them. You either love or hate them, but you feel something. The reader is taken on a fast paced adventure filled with mystery and suspense. An excellent read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Another riveting short story from Rick Mofina. November 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I first discovered this author when I read his excellent short story, "Blood Red Rings". When this one popped up on the Kindle top 100 free, I immediately downloaded it. This dynamic tale doesn't disappoint, as it is very well written and has excellent character development within the confines of its short length. With its very plausible premise, its believable characters and its unexpected twist, it is sure to have you turning the pages as you move toward the satisfying conclusion. An overall 5-star-rated read which I bet you'll enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Today will not be a normal day in the armored car... December 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This short story does a great job of creating a vivid cast of characters. The setting is in an armored car that collects from Las Vegas casinos. The crew is headed up by Elmer Gask, a mouthy sexist racist who is one week from retirement. He is very proud to have never been successfully robbed and is looking forward to getting a reward of $22,000 for 22 loss-free years of carrying millions of dollars every day.

His crew today consists of Latino Gil Perez and Native American Jessica Scout. They are frequent targets of Gask's abusive tongue-lashings, although Scout seems to be a special target because not only is she a minority, she is also an extremely beautiful young woman.

But, as Gask finds out, today will not be a normal day in the armored car...

I rate this kindle book 4 stars out of 5 due to the clunky ending. But the rest of the story is quite good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice read March 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It was an ok book. I liked parts of it better than others. I thought the boss was some what over the top. His behavior was a lawsuit waiting to happen. I was thrown for a loop with the guy turning out to be her uncle. It was short, could have used a bit more dialog instead of so much description. I liked and would buy more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Characters Make a Great Short Story February 15, 2012
By Michael
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This short story features the crew of an armored car company making their cash deliveries. Mofina takes the time to build the characters in the story: Jessica Scout, a young Blackfoot Indian woman; Elmer Gask, a white red-neck about to retire; and Gil Perez, a hardworking Latino husband and father of two little girls.

Throwing these three incompatible characters into the tight confines of an armored car and add the stress of the job handling massive amounts of cash and conflict is the only outcome.

I recommend this tight little story.

Winner of the Crime Writers of Canada 2006 Arthur Ellis Award for Best Short Story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great short story November 11, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Well written very short story. Another reviewer mentioned that the characters stick with you, how true. Wonderful dialogue develops the richness of the charaters very quickly. Good read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
This short story was a major disappointment to me.

The characters seemed like broadly drawn stereotypes (especially Gask, his racism was just over-the-top). Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Mofina books
Mofina is a great writer! His novels have a lot of suspense without the terror that some authors employ! I love reading his books and trying to solve the mystery!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars It was great. Too short though.
Excellent story. I don't know how he could keep it that short though. I really enjoy his plots. And his characters are great too. I love how he can pull it altogether in the end.
