Book Description

January 2005
When Lightning Strikes Twice Marci Alborghetti

"When my doctor found a new melanoma after I’d been officially ‘clean’ for six years, I was stunned. It was like starting over with the original diagnosis. Except worse."

For people who’ve worked hard to overcome an addiction, become a better spouse, or adopt a healthy, positive lifestyle, a new addiction or a second descent into illness can also represent personal failure.

Even more disturbing to those of us facing a repeated crisis is the initial impact it may have on our faith and relationship with God. When we find ourselves facing again the very thing that we’ve counted on God to prevent, we can feel betrayed. Shock, disbelief, rage, blame—all these feelings can come to bear on our life.

These pages explore all of these feelings and examine how people in the grip of repeat tragedy experienced the event, faced their circumstances, learned to cope, and found their way to a stronger faith and deeper trust in God. Using life stories, biblical profiles, and illustrations from our culture, each chapter will define and describe a stage or emotion in the experience of a second tragedy. At the end of each chapter are a prayer conversation with God, questions for reflection, suggested Bible readings, and activities designed to assist in dealing with a return tragedy.

This warm and welcoming book is a perfect companion for anyone experiencing that second strike of lightning.

More About the Author

Marci Alborghetti has been writing only slightly longer than she's been reading. In seventh grade she received her first writing prize for a zany Halloween story. The prize? A five dollar gift certificate to a local book store. She was hooked. The Christmas Glass was her fifteenth book. The Christmas Glass has also gone international. It was published in 2010 in Norway by publisher and TV personality Arve Juritzen's company, Juritzen Forlag, located in Oslo. German publisher Brunnen Verlag has also acquired the rights to The Christmas Glass and will be publishing the book for the 2012 Christmas season. Marci's most recent book is A Willing Heart, published by Ave Marie Press in Notre Dame, Indiana. She and her husband Charlie Duffy live in New London, Connecticut and the San Francisco Bay area. While in New London she facilitates the St. James Literary Club.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great resource for yourself or a gift for a loved one, April 11, 2005
This review is from: When Lightning Strikes Twice (Paperback)
Author Marci Alborghetti is proof positive that one can have setbacks in life and move on to make the world a better place. In her new book When Lightning Strikes Twice (Twenty-Third Publications, January 2005, paperback 142 pages), she offers hope and encouragement to those facing the recurrence of difficult circumstances in their own lives. Following a victorious bout with cancer and after six years of good health, Alborghetti received the devastating news - lightening had struck her for a second time: the cancer was back. She found this second battle to be much more difficult than the first, and her experience led her to examine why that was the case. She found that others on similar journeys had the same experience.

In the book, Alborghetti shares her own story, as well as those of others who found themselves faced with repeated tragedies. Marci's words of encouragement throughout the book spur the reader to proactive solutions and to a greater reliance on one's relationship with God in the face of life's challenges. Each chapter closes with a unique prayer, questions for reflection and concrete action steps. Though aimed at those who may be facing recurrent difficulties, the book has merit and value for anyone looking to transcend a time of pain, sadness or personal grief.
