Book Description

Avery lives in La La Land with a boyfriend who’s totally loaded. Their bond is made strong by a passion for escapism. He pops pills and inhales cocaine, teetering between manic and despondent. She numbs her pain with Mary Jane and exorcisms that combine vodka and razor blades. When her deviance becomes more than her man can handle, he boots her out of his mansion and revokes her ticket to ride out life in oblivion.

So she bungees a box of Fed Ex’d memories from her mom to her motorbike, stuffs her cats in a knapsack, and turns her back on the days of dizzy living.

With the pain of the lush life lodged in her veins, and ruminations from the box, Avery sets out on a path to calm the “lightning” in her wires – a journey that’s about learning from her mistakes, and learning how to accept herself entirely – one that will ultimately change her life forever.

A true, love story, Lightning in my Wires, explores a young woman’s effort to change her perception, on a trek that doesn’t require a trip around the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read -- You won't be able to put it down! July 23, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Caitlin put into words perfectly the ups and downs of life, love and one's self. The more and more I read the book I can feel the struggles that she went through in her search for self-worth and self-love and the perfect relationship. The book hits home! Relating to her story was easy due to the way it was written and laid out. While reading her words, it almost feels like her voice is telling you the story and you are just listening. There are so many parts that made me tear up and some that made laugh due to her wit and her humorous sarcasm which I loved. The book was a wonderful enlightening story that helps you see that all life's struggles do eventually work out and that no matter how dark life may seem at the moment, there is a light at the end of the tunnel that is filled with joy and unconditional love. I am happy that she found the love of her life and she is living the life that she thought would only be a dream, but all her work and self-discovery made her dreams come true. The book was just what I needed to read and I feel everyone should read Lightning in my Wires.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insight June 8, 2011
By CIJ
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Most of the books I've read tell of experience I will not or at least hope never to experience i.e. war, crimes, exotic lifestyles etc. Books, newspapers, magazines and the web are full of stories of the exceptionally gifted or the exceptionally damaged (criminal, sick etc.).

Lightning In my Wires delves into the world of an upper middle class young woman who clearly is 'normal' or 'above average' and thus is/was very much a part of the world I live in but had no real understanding for.

As a parent I hope that reading this book may help me to better know what perhaps my daughter could experience as she moves towards and into adulthood. I will urge my daughter to read the book to know, if she is having similar experiences, she isn't alone or at the least so she may better support her friends that are. I will urge my son to read the book to understand what may be going on in the brain of his classmates / colleagues and better understand how his actions may impact others in ways that he could never guess.

If you come from or associate with women who grew up in middle class / upper middle class America , reading Lightning in my Wires is like having the ability to look into the brain of these friends and colleagues as they enjoyed, suffered and experienced what we label generically as love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing! November 21, 2012
By lmb0910

Let me start by saying I have met Caitlin a few times and NEVER would have guessed this was her life story. I grabbed her book during a free session on a Saturday afternoon thinking I'd have something to read for the following week. I was wrong, I read the entire book that day!! The only time I out it down was to get food! Her story is amazing and she is such a great writer! I hope to again run into her so I can express in person how wonderful she is! She has overcome so much in her life. Thank you Caitlin for sharing your life with us.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT Read...I loved this book! August 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Caitlin Avery's story had me hooked immediately. She deals with many challenges in her life: mother and boyfriend issues, personal loss, and the inevitability of growing older with the proper amount of cynicism and bitterness, fighting but eventually finding peace and acceptance (enlightenment?). It was just what I needed to read after losing the job I'd had for five years, which I loved and assumed I'd have until I retired, or more likely died at my desk. I'd often stop reading to highlight phrases that rang true in my own life. For me, the book was therapeutic. It left me inspired, liberated, and feeling (like the author) that I was going to be OK too!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very candid true story March 28, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Not all voyages of discovery must involve physical luggage, planes, trains, and a passport. If you are burdened with a load of guilt and self-hatred, your best destination is yourself. It worked for Caitlin Avery and in this book she tells you how she conquered her demons and found a lasting love. Read and learn how to love yourself and make others love you. This author has the talent for becoming a big name.

5.0 out of 5 stars None January 29, 2013
By ANF
Format:Kindle Edition
The truth be told that not until a person can look at their own defects and flaws from a subjective self after repeating the same life mistakes over and over then life becomes a pleasure journey accepting life on lifes terms is really not a bad thing . The authors journey out of madness was like reading a great cant put down book. Awesome, enlightening and totally a must read for anyone who is in a state of relationship and life panic.
