5.0 out of 5 stars Very inspirational and artistic
This was a great book. The chapters, or lightposts, each elaborated on an idea for a more joyful life. One of Kinkade's suggestions that I liked was the "glow books." When something good happens to you, jot it down in a little notebook and share it with someone you love. I started my own "glow book" and already it has helped me appreciate the...

3.0 out of 5 stars My thoughts on the book and his work
Kinkade creates, pleasant, popular imagery, but as a professional artist, I have some misgivings about his work.

So what do I have issue with? Firstly, I'm sure the book is pleasant and inspirational. Art is in the eye of the beholder, and I'm glad that people find inspiration in his books and paintings...that's a good thing. But, as a professional involved in the...

This was a great book. The chapters, or lightposts, each elaborated on an idea for a more joyful life. One of Kinkade's suggestions that I liked was the "glow books." When something good happens to you, jot it down in a little notebook and share it with someone you love. I started my own "glow book" and already it has helped me appreciate the good things in my life. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to add a little joy to their lives. I certainly have!

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple but Inspirational, October 28, 1999

The author's ideas are simple and rather obvious for living a joyful life, e.g. simplifying, filtering too much information, volunteering, etc. but they're also inspirational. In these cynical and selfish times, it's refreshing to read about a celebrity who practices what he preaches, i.e. family values. Also, he explains that he mass produces his uplifting artwork so it's affordable to the general public. In fact, I used one of his bookmarks while reading this positive and encouraging book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air, November 21, 2000

Reading this book is like taking a walk in the country, feeling the sunshine and gentle breeze and hearing the singing of birds and the bubbling of a brook and smelling the fragrance of flowers and rain-washed earth. This is not a book one can read thoroughly in one sitting; instead it must be read in small portions so you can savor the richness of what the author/artist is conveying. And once you have turned the last page, don't be surprised if you go back to the beginning and start all over again. I have done so twice. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is seeking a more peaceful, joyful, and positive life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely person, lovely book, July 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lightposts for Living: The Art of Choosing a Joyful Life (Hardcover)
GIST: A painter focuses on experiencing beauty in life. HAMMOCK-TIME: It's a leisurely read in hammock or beach chair. PACE: Slow. SUBSTANCE: Yes, I've heard, read, tried most of the suggestions Mr. Kinkade recommends. His great contribution is the very atmosphere of peace that seems to pervade him and his work, however the artistic standards may be debated by other artists. I began his book with some trepidation, not knowing if he was going to turn out to be some rigid religionist, yet his attitudes surprised and touched me. QUIBBLES: I'd love to see some more variety in the type of nature scenes he portrays. COMPLEMENTARY BOOKS: All of Mr. Kinkade's other works are interesting as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly a Gem of Light to Humanity, July 7, 2000
This review is from: Lightposts for Living: The Art of Choosing a Joyful Life (Hardcover)
What a magnificent treat! Thomas Kinkade writes as well as he paints! He captures his goal by convincing us to "Let Your Light Shine." My most treasured passages tell us about focal point, commitment, involvement, eternal purpose and spiritual vocation. He suggests we learn the fine art of choosing what we will allow into our lives, minds and hearts on a daily basis. He takes the time to share his beliefs about his purpose in life and his talent. This lovely book will inspire and surprise you. It makes a perfect gift for anyone seeking spiritual guidance and meaning in life. It would be a particularly appropriate gift for Jr. and High School graduates.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful..., May 14, 2000
By
A Positive Guy "Jay" (San Antonio, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lightposts for Living: The Art of Choosing a Joyful Life (Hardcover)
When something is beautiful and lovely and full of Americana at its best, there are bound to be detractors. They scoff at this work, call it names, and talk in intellectually superior tones about the qualities this type of art supposedly lacks. But there is something in the sensitive soul that resonates to the words and pictures of this wonderful artist. Whether it is the beautiful simplicity of his paintings or his suggestions for a more beautiful and meaningful life, this book will touch a place inside of you that always knows that our true nature longs for the type of life that this book encourages.

Sure, some folks will dismiss the sentiments and ideals in this book because they have allowed jaded and negative views to dominate their minds and finally their souls and then called it "intellectualism." If your mind is open; better yet your heart, you will find in this book nourishment for your soul. Very highly reccomended!
