Bebo Norman was an independent artist before that tag was even cool. It’s widely known how the Georgia-born singer/songwriter took a year between college and medical school to try his hand as a performing artist and had soon enough sold fifty thousand self-made copies of The Fabric of Verse (1996) at coffeehouse shows, out of the trunk, and online.

No surprise then that Dr. Norman ... Read more in Amazon's Bebo Norman Store

Editorial Reviews

Help me hear joy and happiness as my accompaniment, so my bones, which you have broken, will dance in delight instead Psalm 51:8 (The Voice)

Throughout his seventeen-year discography, singer-songwriter Bebo Norman has been applauded for laying it all on the table. Lyrically transparent and musically vulnerable, Norman s music provides a common ground for the songwriter and the listener to collaborate in a discourse on life s curious details, and how those day-to-day unknowns play in the greater mystery of faith.

Bebo is set to release Lights of Distant Cities this October. Bebo continues to stretch the musical arrangements to his often worshipful melodies. "You can't understand light unless you understand darkness, because that's where life is most often lived - somewhere between the two. It's messy and it's beautiful all at the same time," says Bebo Norman.

5.0 out of 5 stars A poet for his generation October 27, 2012
By Dempsey
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Bebo's music has always spoken to me and this recording is no exception. His ability to turn a phrase in a way that is uniquely his own and speak so much in so few words has always drawn me back to his music. He captures his spiritual condition and emotion, whatever season he is going through in his life, and embodies his songs with it. Add to that the musical stylings of his good friend and first-time producer Gabe Scott and you have a stellar album. The musical depth can now match the depth of the lyrics that Bebo has always brought to his music. I couldn't be happier with it and look forward to many, many listenings over the coming days and see how God uses it to speak uniquely into my soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful depth October 31, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
Bebo Norman consistently brings a personal, real perspective of daily walking with God to his music--his lyrics are raw and heartfelt but not cheesy or overly sentimental--he manages to keep them based in truth yet very tender, the cry of a heart choosing to believe despite the struggle. His versatility in music is evident, and honestly At The End of Me now ranks among my top 10 favorites, bringing to life the truth of John 3:30. Another keeper for sure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Norman "Lights" A Beacon With Powerful Songs October 23, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Prime Cuts: At the End of Me, Collide, Outside Her Window was the World

In a market of wimpy and cliché ridden songs, Norman is a meaty and muscular writer. Ever since his 1996 debut "The Fabric of Verse," Norman has flexed his muscle with poignant, sturdy and thoughtful compositions such as "Great Light of the World," "Falling Down" and "Disappear." And four years ago, he upped the ante by offering his most cutting edge piece "Britney," a personal plea to pop divalet Britney Spears to abandon her self-destructive lifestyle. Still as astute and ever more that cuttingly relevant, Lights of Distant Cities is again a showcase of Norman's mettle as a great writer. However, this time round, he has decided to allow the theme of light and darkness theme to control these 11 cuts. Exploring both sides of this theme judiciously, this Dove Award winner does not shy about from delving into the utter devastation that sin and darkness bring. Neither is he afraid of telling us that the answer is the Light of the World Jesus himself -nothing more and nothing less. Teaming up with Gabe Scott and Ben Shive (Sara Groves and Andrew Peterson) at the helm, this album continues on the pop/soft rock direction of Norman's latter efforts but there are also a few more rustic acoustic moments that harkened back to Norman's earlier discs.

With regards to the theme of sin, Norman hits the nail right at the head with "Collide." The root of sin is not misguided living or not maximising our potential or committing some moral flaw but it is idolatry-our sheer rebellion against God. Featuring some crunchy acoustic guitar pickings, Norman pleads with us on "Collide" to give up our coffers and towers of idolatry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music! March 2, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The first time I heard Bebo Norman sing I was a fan! I was so excited to hear about his newest cd! When I read that Ben Shive was producing and that Gabe Scott had co-written many of the songs I knew I had to have it! I was not disappointed! The lyrics are honest and the melodies are pure. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of My Favorites Now January 12, 2013
Format:Audio CD
Bebo Norman is a contemporary folk-pop-rock Christian musician from Columbus, Georgia. Light Of Distant Cities is Bebo Norman's 8th studio album. It was released on October 22nd via BEC Recordings. In his seventeen-year discography this is the first time the artist has brought his close friend and multi-instrumentalist Gabe Scott on board as co-producer. Together with Ben Shive (Andrew Peterson, Sara Groves) this album has been produced.

This album is truly a creative masterpiece and a definite keeper. I love his use of lyrics and instruments. I don't mind playing this one over and over again. I don't see myself tiring of it, ever. The greatest thing about this album is how it speaks to the listener. It beckons the listener to reach for the light and hope that is in Christ especially in despair and darkness. Bebo has been there. He has an insiders perspective and these songs resonate this to his audience. The theme of light and darkness, desperation and recovery is profoundly evident throughout the eleven-song track list. The depth of his music is so personal, thoughtful and beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, as always December 21, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
IMO, it does not get much better than Bebo, and this latest album is not exception. Beautifully crafty songs from one of the most gifted singer-songwriters working today, Christian or otherwise. Every track is outstanding, but I keep coming back over and over to Sing Of Your Glory. It's such a simple song, but so powerful and honest.
The production quality is great on this record, which is rare in CCM. Just Bebo and an acoustic guitar and/or piano would be enough, and for the most part that's what we have here. But when more is added to some of these arrangements, it's not too much. Just enough to add some warmth and atmosphere. Buy this now and put it on repeat. :)
