5.0 out of 5 stars Beaituful, Atmospheric, and Captivating September 15, 2013
Victor Reyes recently scored Rodrigo Cortes' other film, Buried, which is a thriller about a convoy driver who is taken hostage somewhere in Iraq. With this movie, Red Lights, which is about two researchers who debunk fake supernatural phenomena, Reyes changes the tempo of the music from an emotionally-charged powerhouse to something more sinister and heartfelt. The Main Theme sets the tone of the film perfectly; haunting, strange and fast-paced. The second track, Hocus Pocus, is more of a general sounding piece that would fit in a montage of setting up equipment, testing materials and preparing to outmatch an unsuspecting opponent. Later on, in the track "Open Your Eyes," the haunting and eerie atmosphere kicks into high gear for a 34-second piece that offers nail-biting suspense and white-knuckle tension. I would have to say, though, the best track on the soundtrack is "... and Then You Wake Up." Taking place during the climatic scene that offers a mind-bending conclusion, the heartfelt emotion is at maximum. I won't reveal the scene, but this track is pitch perfect; moody and somber.

Victor Reyes is a great composer who's talents are not being fully utilized by the movie industry, but at least they're being used. He's like Lucas Vidal; they both have great music, but very little of it. I highly recommend Vidal's The Raven, which is similar to this, but more so to Reyes' Buried. Red Lights is a must-own for fans of instrumental/classical music, or those who listen to movie scores.
