5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific!
I've been using these now for a couple of weeks nightly and I have to say they're extremely comfortable.

Other reviewers have commented that they let light in around the nose, and they're right ... but it's not a lot of light, even with all the lights in the bedroom on, just a small sliver down by your nose. You can close your eyes and it'll look/feel...

3.0 out of 5 stars Lets light in around the nose area
The mask is comfortable around the face area but after a week or so of use the straps started irritating my ears. My ears are sore and some skin around the lobe is chaffing. They need to design a more comfortable strap. Even more irritating though is that the mask does not seal well around the nose. Light gets in around the nose area and makes it difficult to fall asleep...

I've been using these now for a couple of weeks nightly and I have to say they're extremely comfortable.

Other reviewers have commented that they let light in around the nose, and they're right ... but it's not a lot of light, even with all the lights in the bedroom on, just a small sliver down by your nose. You can close your eyes and it'll look/feel completely pitch black and given that I don't spend a lot of time with my eyes open under the mask, the mask doesn't lose any functionality because of this bit of light. You might want to get the black color instead of the blue if you're really concerned, as it may absorb more light.

The velcro strap is adjustable for bigger heads like my own. I honestly didn't think the cupped design for REM sleep would be a big deal, but it really does make a difference, if just for comfort.

I highly recommend this mask.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best, even with the reservations others have noted, November 11, 2006
This review is from: Lights Out Sleep Mask (Misc.)
Yes, a little light leaks in with this mask, but closing your eyes, it's plenty dark. Yes, the strap can chafe your ears, so I wear it *over* the ears and the problem goes away. Yes, it has 3 laminated layers, and the inner fabric layer does separate from the molded plastic after several months of daily use -- so does the fabric on more expensive eyeshades (like Buckys, among others). This one's worth it; buy 2 or 3. the velcro makes them adjustable, but it may catch on satin pillowcases, not on cotton.

Overall, I've never found a better design. They're light, comfortable, and they do the job they're designed to do. What more do you want? :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Sleep Mask, But Doesn't Block 100% Of Light, July 16, 2005
By
This review is from: Lights Out Sleep Mask (Misc.)
This is a well made sleep mask. It features a wide elastic band that will not roll, and that is adjustable with a velcro closure. The eye cover part of the mask is a made of a molded foam material with space for the eyes to move during REM sleep. The mask is lightweight and breathes well. It took a couple nights to get used to the feel. It was a little uncomfortable in the nose initially, but I got used to the feeling of it and now find it very comfortable. I like the mask very much except for one thing: it lets light in too much light around the nose area. I've found one company on the net that claims 100% light blockage with most of their sleep masks, so I am planning on trying one of those. I only paid $12 for this mask including shipping, but in the end I want a mask that blocks out all light.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lets light in around the nose area, July 19, 2005

The mask is comfortable around the face area but after a week or so of use the straps started irritating my ears. My ears are sore and some skin around the lobe is chaffing. They need to design a more comfortable strap. Even more irritating though is that the mask does not seal well around the nose. Light gets in around the nose area and makes it difficult to fall asleep. My bedroom window faces east and I get a lot of bright sunlight in the morning. I was hoping this mask would solve that problem. It didn't.

Edit: I have washed this mask a few times since I bought it and it is falling apart badly now. I was even sure to wash it gently and let it hang dry. Now I'm back on Amazon looking for a replacement.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed, March 7, 2008

First of all this product is identical to the "Sweet Dreams Contoured Sleep Mask" by Dream Essentials, except the Sweet Dreams mask costs less. I ordered both, and they are identical.

Second, the Velcro closure on the back of the head-strap forms an uncomfortable 'bump' on the back of my head that makes it almost impossible to sleep with this mask on.

Third, the mask does leak some light in around the nose, but I am more upset about the 1st two points. I didn't want two of the same mask, particularly when the 2nd one cost me more than the first.

Do not buy this mask under any circumstances. If you want it, do an Amazon search for "Sweet Dreams Contoured Sleep Mask" instead, it is the same thing for less money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great==doesn't squash your eyes, October 16, 2008

I found this through a long review of sleep masks by a pilot. I, too, have tried several--I live in the city and it is hard to block out all light from my bedroom [sleeping in a darkened room is supposed to dramatically reduce your risk of breast cancer and dramatically improve your sleep quality.] Even if I could, it's kind of nice to be able to find my way to the bathroom without stepping on dogs or their toys. Other sleep masks tend to get hot on my face during the night and to irritate my eyes--I had laser surgery and my corneas are a bit sensitive. I'd wake up with slightly gritty-feeling eyes often, and smushed eyelashes. This mask does none of these things. It doesn't completely block out light along the bottom from a fully lit room, because it doesn't quite fit my face perfectly, but after the lights are off, it is totally dark. It doesn't get hot and it doesn't squish my eyes. I lie on my side, and sometimes it will gap a bit, but it snaps back in place if I move my face away from the pillow. It is the best I've found.

4.0 out of 5 stars great idea, December 28, 2006

This review is from: Lights Out Sleep Mask (Misc.)
I have used sleep masks for years and know they help me have a better night's sleep. This particular one has little indentations that go over the eyes, not actually touching the eyes, which is a great bonus. The adjustable strap is a good thing. It didn't last as long as I would have liked, the parts are coming apart, but still is usable. I am going to try a similar and more expensive model next time to see how they compare. Great idea, just seems a bit cheaply manufactured. However for this price, you could buy a new one every year and not feel cheated. I definitely got my money's worth out of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars terrific sleep mask, August 17, 2006

The Lights Out sleep mask is the best sleep mask I've ever had, and I've tried several different brands over the past few years. It does an adequate job of blocking the light. But what makes this mask exceptional is its comfort level. Unlike all the other masks I've tried, it rests very lightly on the face, not pressing down at all. After putting it on, I forget it's even there. I like it so much I bought 2 extra ones: one for home, one for travel, and one just in case I lose either of the others!

4.0 out of 5 stars The best, July 9, 2005
This review is from: Lights Out Sleep Mask (Misc.)
Due to working shifts I frequently use sleep masks and have always used the normal flat fabric type. Earlier this year, when on holiday in the U.S, I came across this novel type of mask and decided to buy one. It is well made and very comfortable in use, and it really does allow your eyes to move freely. I only have two gripes: A small amount of light is let in around the nose area, however I have never used a mask that hasn't done this. It would be nice is the manufacturers could fix this, perhaps by adding a soft aluminium strip so the the mask could be made to seal around the difficult nose area. If it wasn't for this I would have given it 5/5. The second gripe is that, to my knowledge, it's not available in the UK.
