5.0 out of 5 stars Yellowcard's new album review
The new Yellowcard album is finally out! This time however, they have released a special edition consisting of the album cd as well as a dvd which contains special features all about YELLOWCARD--how they made the music video, composed the song, etc! The songs are alittle different than the previous album; the lyric, in addition to the reason for its composition, sounds...

Before I get started, I have one question. What exactly is Ryan Mendez' purpose? He is listed as one of the members of the band, and he's in the picture with the rest of the band, but after that there is no mention of him; it doesn't say what instrument he plays, and he's not listed as having written or produced any of the songs. I don't know if that was an error on the...

The new Yellowcard album is finally out! This time however, they have released a special edition consisting of the album cd as well as a dvd which contains special features all about YELLOWCARD--how they made the music video, composed the song, etc! The songs are alittle different than the previous album; the lyric, in addition to the reason for its composition, sounds much more "mature" with alot more instrumental melody surrounding the mellow essence of the music. The songs when you listen to it really makes you think after...It's not just punk-rock music anymore, but more thoughtful and much more aware of the world; deep stuff! The dvd is really awesome where you get to hear every member's opinion about the album, their music video, kind of get to see their everyday life as a rock star, their reasons for writing songs now, etc. You can experience how much effort it takes to just write a song; what goes into it and so forth! This album is one of the best album out yet from Yellowcard! I totally recommend the special edition over the single-cd album! HOPE YOU ENJOY YELLOWCARD'S NEW ALBUM, LIGHTS AND SOUND!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny, January 25, 2006
This review is from: Lights and Sounds (Special Package CD+DVD) (Audio CD)
Ocean Avenue came out ages ago, and yet I still listen to all the songs. I liked it for the catchy tunes and good vocals. Lights and Sounds is almost nothing like Ocean Avenue as a whole, but it's not bad in any way at all. Songs like "Two Weeks From Twenty" and "Words, Hands, Hearts" are relevant to current living in the world. "Martin Sheen or JFK," "Waiting Game," and "Down on my Head" are some of my favorites, although I'm sure at least one of these songs will be permanantly imprinted in your mind. The "New Sound" is still purely Yellowcard and only sacrifice "poppy tunes" for more mature lyrics which sound just as good. Your wait has finally ended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yellowcard's "Light's and Sounds" is an album you need to buy NOW!!!!, January 31, 2006
This review is from: Lights and Sounds (Special Package CD+DVD) (Audio CD)
I absolutley love Yellowcard. In fact, Ocean Avenue was the first CD I ever bought in which I liked EVERY SINGLE SONG on the CD. After Ocean Avenue, I went and bought One For The Kids and The Underdog [EP]. Both were CD's that I fell in-love with as well. And Lights & Sounds is no exception. This Yellowcard CD has got a much more mature sound. It's absoulutley fantastic. Ryan Key has such a talent for writing lyrical masterpieces and the others have such a great musical writing talent. Sean Mackin's violin selections have got to be the most beautiful violin sets the rock world has ever seen. I highly recommend that if you like Yellowcard or have bought any of their previous CD's, BUY THIS ONE! You will surley NOT be disappointed...

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-worth the nearly three-year wait, January 25, 2006
This review is from: Lights and Sounds (Special Package CD+DVD) (Audio CD)
While people may argue that Yellowcard is a just a radio-friendly pop-punk band, following the stereotypes set by Simple Plan and Good Charlotte, their newest Capitol Records release sets them apart from the pack. With catchy songs like "Grey" to appeal to their younger fans and more serious themes for the older fans (the Iraqi war, anyone?) like "Two Weeks From Twenty," Lights and Sounds is sure to appeal to everyone.

The bonus DVD is full of behinds-the-scenes footage, and a must-have for any die-hard Yellowcard fan.

All in all, a great purchase either for yourself or a friend.

ive been a fan of yellowcard for a long time, and ill be honest, they kinda sold out with ocean avenue, with all the mtv/radio play they got from it, i was worried, that after that album they wouldnt be able to do any better.

but i was wrong.

basically, they went in a different direction, they moved to new york, got away from the california-ness of ocean avenue, and got rid of their fomulaic catchy anthems. In comes Lights and sounds, their most mature, honest, and raw cd's yet

I don't know if that was an error on the CD manufacturer's part, or if he really doesn't do anything, or...

Anyway, Ocean Avenue is a very hard album to top, but Ryan Key and the boys do a pretty good job with their latest, Lights and Sounds. Musac Critic and Matthew Berdan's reviews are pretty accurate, and it IS true that the guys have a more mature sound on here, especially on "Down On My Head", which sounds a little like early Green Day. But it was a good choice to release the title track as the first single because it's the strongest cut on the album.

Other good songs include "Sure Thing Falling" and the smooth "City of Devils". But by the time you reach the second half on the album, things go a little downhill. It's not that the songs are terrible, but most of them fail to pack a punch like the songs on their previous album (and it's not because they're more mellow songs). Also, when the guys try to go political, they hit ("Words, Hands, Hearts") and miss ("Two Weeks From Twenty").

But Lights and Sounds is still a good album. I don't agree with the people that are comparing them to Coldplay and Keane (although I like both of those bands), but Yellowcard still have enough going for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome as is Worth Your Money, March 30, 2006
This review is from: Lights and Sounds (Special Package CD+DVD) (Audio CD)
I was a fan of Yellowacard as soon as I bought Ocean Avenue. (check it out) When this one came out I decided to pre-order it! I put it in the cd player and it was awesome! This is a must-buy. The music is great and the DVD extras are fantastic. it's choc-full of interviews and "the making of". Best CD I've bought all year. Great Buy! P.S. If you are a fan of YC come down to www.ycunderdogs.com. (my name is MUSICMANIAC)

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like Yellowcard, or just good music, March 9, 2006
This review is from: Lights and Sounds (Special Package CD+DVD) (Audio CD)
This is an absolutely great CD. Yellowcard has a great sound, and they've expanded on it with this CD, while still making it so you can listen and say, yes thats Yellowcard. The music is talented and lyrics are meaningful. If you haven't given Yellowcard a chance yet, give them this one, and I'm sure you'll be hunting for their older stuff.

With the new Yellowcard cd. I own One For the Kids, Ocean Avenue, and now Lights and Sounds. It is the best record so far and I love every song on it. Since there first cd their sound has gotten more mature and they have all grown up and gotten better at what they do. I have always loved them, and now I love them even more.
