Editorial Reviews

For many years, we've been getting requests to do a truly definitive country series, but it wasn't until the success of our R&B/Soul series, Blowin' The Fuse (now Sweet Soul Music') that we decided we needed to do something comparable for country music. Now the first six volumes are complete, taking us from 1945-1950. The country series has been compiled with today's fans in mind. Yes, the big hits are there, but so are the classic performances that weren't necessarily big hits at the time, but became influential in the years ahead. Every volume has incredibly detailed behind-the-scenes stories, fabulously rare photos, and an ongoing history of country music set against the backdrop of the broader American music business. Definitive? You bet!

1946 begins with the Buchanan Brothers' Atomic Power and includes the original versions of Someday (You'll Want Me To Want You), Jole Blon and Ruby, as well as the recordings by Bill Monroe that marked the birth of bluegrass, plus classic hits by Bob Wills, Ernest Tubb, Tex Ritter, The Delmore Brothers, Merle Travis, Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, and many others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't keep it a secret!, June 26, 2011

I admit I'm not an expert but, I listened to a few samples here and I'm pretty sure I heard many of the artists
who made these songs hits. Eddy Arnold, Ernest Tubb, Merle Travis (No Vacancy & Dark as a Dungeon)
and maybe even Harry Choates doing Jolie Blon.

C'mon guys if it is good enough to collect and publish and it's by the original artists say so!
