4.0 out of 5 stars enough light for keyboard in a dark room
I bought this to add a little illumination to my keyboard when I am typing on my laptop in a totally dark room and need to find special keys. This product is perfect for that use.

Pro's: Small-easy to carry in a backpack wthout getting tangled.
(Not really a functional pro, but it is cool looking.)

Con's: Brightness - It is only 1 LED...

The product pictured is very small (maybe 3 inches when stretched straight) and only works at all if your USB ports are on the side of your laptop. It has only ONE bulb (not 2 as in the description) and shines very little light. Only when I attached it to a USB extension and hung it over the top of the screen could I get it to shine on most of the keys. The written descriptions are for other products that have a clip part with a battery to let you use if for a book, 2 bulbs, etc. The pictured product is the one you receive and it is almost useless. Ignore the written description and hopefully this error will be corrected. I actually went and bought the one in the description, and it does work great.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not much light, January 16, 2009

Warning: The product details and description on this page are for a different product. Only the picture is correct.

Pros: It is tiny (about 3 inches high) and would travel easily. I would use it to light papers on a desk next to the laptop.

Cons: The Mr. Brightside USB light has only one LED light. Also, depending on where your USB ports are, the light may not work at all for you. It is VERY small, I guess as shown in the picture. It's about 3 inches high when stretched straight. My USB ports are luckily on the side of my laptop and so I can curve the neck and shine it on the keyboard as it is designed to do. If you ports are in the back the light is to short to shine around the lid onto your keyboard. Because it is so short the light can only either be curved to shine on only the closest keys, or pointed straight across the keyboard - in which case it is only strong enough to light maybe half the keyboard. I did try attaching it to a small USB extension cord I had and hooked it over the top of my laptop screen and got the best light from it - but still not great. It does not have a clip or batteries options like the description - that is another product.

I ended up going and buying the one described in the product details which is bigger and had 2 LED lights - much better.

Angle - You will only get a low angle light over your keyboard, not a top down one like you would get with a goose neck.

Caution: This light only makes sense if you have a USB slot on the side of your laptop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice little light, August 20, 2010

This works perfectly on my Dell netbook. If you do not have side USB ports, don't get this light because it is very short and would not reach from a back USB port. Otherwise this product is perfect, small and convenient. The light is nice and bright and illuminates the entire netbook keyboard.

The first one I received was defective on arrival. The light went on and off as you bent the neck. I got a replacement, which worked for a few months, and now the same thing is happening - the light only comes on some of the time. There is obviously a core design flaw with this product. I actually like everything else about it. Don't buy it.

Very small, not enough light, when plugged in on the side, my hands block the light.

Try your luck with some type of a long reach flexible neck.

2.0 out of 5 stars Almost Like No Light at All, January 20, 2012
Overall the design is great. It's cute, and doesn't interfere with typing. That's about all the pros I can think of. There is one little light that lights up maybe a key or two. A complete shame. If it were made just a tad larger (this thing is TINY), and added another light or two, maybe it would have been more effective. I'd skip this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Night Light?, February 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Works great as a little night light for your keyboard (if you have USB on the keyboard) Just the right amount of light to see the keys and not bother any one else by having the main light on in the house. Wish it was a little bit taller to get more of a angle on your keyboard itself.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very bright, February 2, 2011
This little light is very bright and out of the box has a very low angle across rather than on the keyboard. I plugged one into a usb hub to lift it higher and shines over the screen onto the keyboard and it's perfect. The shape of the shade prevents glare into the screen and focuses all of the light onto the keyboard. It also makes a fantastic shadow puppet light.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good design, January 31, 2011
By

Unfortunately, this product does not illuminate the keyboard very well. It has only a single LED, requires a side port (back ports will not work) and then only illuminates, at best, a corner of the keyboard. It might have some limited usage if you want to take the time to redirect the light onto different areas of the keyboard, but that is a lot of interruptions.

This light would be better if it had more adjustability in the length of the neck, plus another LED or two.
