Like a Bird, Like a Plane

I've been listening to Charlie Mars music for a while now.
Originally heard him from an Oxford American magazine comp.
and bought the Charlie Mars by Charlie Mars Band cd. Loved the southern drawl and laid back sound. Clever lyrics,
very poetic unlike a lot of "popular" music out there now.

Like a Bird, Like a Plane demonstrated a lot of growth...
musically, vocally and lyrically. He's mellow, but not somnolent. "Listen to the Darkside is great (as is the video which features Mary Louise Parker) to bounce around the house to, and the title track is very percussion oriented and definitely gets your attention right away.

I can't wait until the next installment. For the foreseeable future this cd will be rotating through my audio players.

The last 2 cds in particular by Charlie Mars are amazing, beautiful and in a league of their own. Although this one is quite different from the last one, the songwriting vocals and arrangements are all wonderful. Did anyone out there happen to record the xm loft sessions? That was amazing as well and I would love to score a copy. If CM comes to your town check him out, I saw him years ago at sxsw and was at an outside bar when he came on, not knowing who he was, almost everyone was drawn inside to see and hear better from the first song, well worth it and afterwards Charlie was a really nice guy to talk to as well!!!!!

I discovered Charlie Mars' music via XM radio. A few weeks later, he was playing a small venue near me in Vienna, VA so I decided to go and check him out. I would have paid ten times the amount of money for the ticket. Worth every penny, that's for sure. Charlie has a smooth voice, and his one man show (him and his guitar or piano) make for a wonderful arrangement. Not only did I enjoy his music, including his poetic lyrics, but the man is absolutely charming! Even my husband commented on the same. Charlie is warm, funny and really does know how to work his audience. The music speaks for itself and his charismatic personality tossed into the mix is the perfect touch. I love this CD and highly recommend it. 'Listen To The Darkside', 'Meet Me At The Backdoor' and 'Banging On Your Door' are some of my favorites. I've played the heck out of the CD already.

Saw C.M. as an opening act in a Des Moines bar a week ago. Felt bad for him as the patrons were chatty, to say the least. Very good voice, just him and his guitar and he sounded great. Listening to the song snippets on Amazon, definitely picking up Like a Bird, Like a plane. Great songwriting, catch him live if you can, just a tremendous voice.
