Book Description

June 15, 2004
The author writes of her six year struggle to find what she describes as "finding the pieces that made up the whole of "me" and bringing them together again". This is a delightful fell good read with humor and the awesome commitment of family. She is still paralyzed but has come so far remembering and writing of the struggle and confusion she lived with, strolling through the tunnel to heaven, living through hell, losing her mind and finding self. The author gives great insight to anyone caring for another as to how and what their patient may be feeling or thinking. There is so much understanding for anyone in their day to day interactions with others after reading t! his book. There is a lot to think about as "Like a Bolt out of the blue, fate comes down and changes you". A feel good, inspirational, motivational read. About the Author Mary Morgan, now 65 years old has been married for 46 years with 5 children and 11 grandchildren. She has lived on the Outer Banks of North Carolina for over 30 years and is a retired Real Estate sales manager. Six years ago she suffered a severe stroke and is paralyzed on her left side. She now spends her time speaking to caregiver and independent living meetings. She says " Heaven tempted me during stroke but sure has a lot of competition to top my life on this planet". Book Reviews "Like A Bolt" has been the supreme piece of literature on the subject that I had yet to read. I have been given a lot of "professional" literature on stroke and help for caregivers, none of them gave me anything I really needed and wanted. In fact, "Like A Bolt" as I see it, is the definitive work on the experience of stroke and in some real sense turned me around....Charles McCoy, Va.Beach,Va.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most helpful, October 16, 2004
This review is from: Like A Bolt: Tragedy to Triumph After Stroke (Paperback)
I have been primary caregiver for my mom for the past two years since she suffered a massive stroke. Until I read Mary's book, I didn't have a clue what she was feeling or thinking. After reading this book, I have so much more insight into what my mom is going through and how her mind works, which has enabled me to be a much better caregiver and friend to her. It is a must read for all caregivers of stroke survivors. I also shared the book with my mom, and she cried many times but they were happy tears, that someone had finally put into words many of the things she thought but couldn't articulate for herself. Definitely two thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for Caregivers of Stroke Victims, October 15, 2004
This review is from: Like A Bolt: Tragedy to Triumph After Stroke (Paperback)
This book should be required reading for every person who is a caregiver of persons who have had stroke, brain damage or imparement. I learned more from Mary Morgan than I did from any professional advice, or book on the subject. Mary lives the life of one who suffered several strokes and shares her tears, terror, frustrations, anger, joy and triumph as though she were your closest friend.

Once you see the world from Mary's eyes, you will be a changed person. I now clearly see what my own 92 year old mother is going through because of her stroke. Mary helped me to see what mom's perceptions are and how better to deal with them and react to them. No one else can give you the internal workings of the stroke victim's mind but one who has lived it.

Mary's wit and humor are a delight even when she is sharing the worst of her struggles. This book will help everyone who has a loved one with brain damage regardless of the cause. If you are a caregiver and can read only one book, this is the one to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mary inspired me, October 5, 2009
This review is from: Like A Bolt: Tragedy to Triumph After Stroke (Paperback)
As a stroke survivor myself. I was inspired by Mary's willingness to continue the fight despite all of her struggles. I think she explained in great detail the difficulties that she endured and continues to do so. Each stroke is as individual as the person and the circumstances. Mary tells it like it is and how it was for her. I recommended her book on my stroke support website [...]
