A Strong Debut,
By Bill Z (NYC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Like Distant Sounds (Audio CD)
Caught the band in a live show in New York (that's where I first heard about the disc) and was instantly hooked. Definitely worth checking out. The style is kind of a cross between a less-poppy John Mayer and a slightly heavier version of Crowded House or Counting Crows. Lyrically very strong, especially on songs like "Wish I Could" and "That Sacred Place." As a guitar player, Tim reminds me of a modern-day cross between Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. The rhythm section is incredible. Check out the bass freak out on "Somebody Just Like Me" and the bass/ guitar/drum parts in "A Different Version of My Life."

Great CD for many tastes,

Equally suited to chilling in a beach hammock or driving down the freeway, Kirker's CD can be at the same time relaxing and exciting. If you like bands like Guster and can't stand Neil Diamond, this one's for you.

Like Distant Sounds,
By A Customer
This review is from: Like Distant Sounds (Audio CD)
A friend recommended this CD to me when it was released in February, and I've been listening to it ever since. The combination of insightful lyrics and stay-with-you melodies has quickly earned Like Distant Sounds a spot among my all-time favorite discs. I've also seen Tim in concert a few times, and highly recommend checking him out if he's in your area. If you're looking for something unlike anything you've heard before and better than 99% of what's on today's hit list, this is for you.
