Don't you love Yakuza movies?,
By
This review is from: Like a Dragon (DVD)
I also bought this movie because of the game. The games are great and so in depth. The movie was not really what i expected. it's very loosely tied to the game. Nishiki and Fuma are barely in the plot. its seems like Kazuma just "runs" into trouble, but really has no ties to these characters.Kazuma and Nishiki don't even look like their characters, nor do they even look Japanese. I DO like that they have little "funnies" from the game here and there like the energy drink, which causes him to power up with a blue aura. Also, Yoo Gong is hot, but I really don't remember his role in any of the games. It's fun to watch if you're into the game, but other's may find the story very choppy. Or maybe none fans will just enjoy the movie for what it is. Although it's not the best movie, i still enjoyed it.

A Good (but Esoteric) Film,

I bought the movie because I am very much in love with the Yakuza (Ryu Ga Gotoku)game series. The video game series itself is a wonderfully told story of a former Yakuza, Kazuma Kiryu, who is trying to leave his past of crime behind him. If you haven't played any of the games, you probably won't like--nor understand-- this movie. It takes a certain amount of prior knowledge to grasp the plot in it's entirety. Right up front, we know that Kazuma is helping a young girl named Haruka trying to find her mother. It's very briefly touched upon that Kazuma and Haruka's mother, Yumi, were once a hot and heavy item. It's mentioned that Kazuma, Yumi, and Nishiki all once attended the same orphanage, but it's never brought to light how deeply attached they all were. There's quite a few plot holes that someone completely new to the series wouldn't be able to grasp, but for those of you who enjoy the Yakuza games, it's easy enough to fill them in. I think the action scenes are fairly well done--lots of excitement without being overbearing. It's got a lot of quirky elements, much like the side-missions in the games, as it spins three separate tales into one story. It follows the main story of Kazuma and Haruka, along with two other stories about a young teenage couple on a thieving spree and two bank robbers who progressively show incompetence in their attempts to knock over a bank. I suggest Ryu-Ga-Gotoku lovers give the movie a try. It's not perfect, but it's definitely entertaining, especially the depictions of Goro Majima and Kazuma Kiryu.

I bought this movie because I periodically go through kung-fu stages and was very pleased with the movie. Some of the scenes are a bit contrived but it didn't take away from the movie.
