lets start with the good. lil wayne is one of the hottest rappers around, and his flows on this cd are great for the most part. his lyrical metaphors and unique delivery are what initially seperated him from the less-talented cash money crew. in short, lil wayne is what makes this record worthy of 3 stars, without him it wouldnt be worth listening to. there are some...

Bikes are temperamental I think

The muffler doesn't like being so cold and then so hot and so on

Ana sends me a youtube video on g-chat and I accidentally see a recent photograph of you when I'm looking at things on facebook and think `oh god' but not with any words

You are definitely wearing your husband's shirt

You definitely seem to be

I watch out the window

My roommate driving away

I write to ana, `what is wrong with this poem besides the whole thing? you don't have to answer this'

It is definitely very cold outside

3.0 out of 5 stars mediocre, December 27, 2006
This review is from: Like Father Like Son (Audio CD)
lets start with the good. lil wayne is one of the hottest rappers around, and his flows on this cd are great for the most part. his lyrical metaphors and unique delivery are what initially seperated him from the less-talented cash money crew. in short, lil wayne is what makes this record worthy of 3 stars, without him it wouldnt be worth listening to. there are some decent beats and legitimate hooks as well. rick ross has a pretty sick verse in 'know what im doin.'

what makes this record almost unbearable is birdman. his raps are repetitive and boring, and his delivery lacks substance. as for his lyrics, all he raps about is money, cars, car accessories, car paint jobs, rims, etc... u pretty much get the picture. birdman seems to forget that being a good rapper requires flowing about multiple subjects and issues, not just cars. birdman, we understand you have a grip of money and some nice whips, now find something else to rap about you talentless moron. another thing on this record that annoys the s@#$ out of me is the skits. four wasted tracks with some italian mobster talking about mob stuff, maybe out of some movie, I DONT CARE. since lil wayne and birdman are neither italian nor connected to the mob, these skits make absolutely no sense and are a waste of cd space.

overall, this album is decent at best. download it, dont buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars top-notch production although a lil generic, October 31, 2006
This review is from: Like Father Like Son (Audio CD)
this album does not disappoint. it also is not extraordinary; expect good beats and clever lyrics from lil wayne. the guests do their thing and rip their verses. lil wayne delivers some catchy flows and funny punchlines, as usual. birdman is very consistent- he spits like you would expect him to. he is sort of like filler because everyone buys this album for lil wayne.

track-by-track review:

1. skit
2. over here hustlin - this is a tight bangin track. i really like this song. its got a Chopped N Screwed beat, which i like. a lot of the beats on this album are chopped and screwed.
3. stuntin like my daddy - the first single. u know what it is. great song.
4. 1st key - this song is dope. its pretty relaxing, lil wayne goes for a smoother flow, a lil bit different from his jerky energetic flows. this songs all about drugs
5. like father like son - another great joint. lil wayne gets lyrical near the end, quoting biggie smalls and then taking off with his own rhymes. good beat also. its like a step below a banger, not really a club song
6. you aint know - a great track with an infectious hook
7. skit
8. know what im doin - T Pain and Rick Ross. the hook is sort of like PICTURE PERFECT by Chamillionaire... this is a good song
9. dont die - meh. a soft song by lil wayne, kind of hard to understand
10. aint worried - eh
11. out the pound - eh
12. leather so soft - this soft beat is classic. melody is crazy. the hook is strangely addictive too and lil wayne spits fire on this track
13. army gunz - the beat gets annoying, the Chop/Screwy hook is mediocre, but lil waynes verses are tight
14. skit
15. get that money - pretty good. this song does not stand up but on its own, its cool. lil wayne sort of "rap-sings" on this hook. pretty good.
16. no more - this song goes hard. the hook is crazy. the prince guy does his thing and drops some nice rhymes
17. high - another soft song... i dont really like it
18. cali dro - lil wayne drops a hilarious verse with an on-going rhyme scheme. "i keep the maggie on me like homer" haha. daz and kurupt do their thing of course
19. about all that - fat joe makes an appearance on this rock music inspired track. one of the weaker songs on the album.. im biased against joe crack becuz hes corny but hes not bad on this song
20. skit

3.0 out of 5 stars Lil Wayne should've done this one solo...., December 22, 2006
This review is from: Like Father Like Son (Audio CD)
I decided to give this album only 3 stars because only half of it is good. Lil' Wayne is a great lyricist, with crazy metaphors and word play, and the production on this album is sick; however, Baby is the downfall to this album. In my opinion, he is the Puff-Daddy of rap. I love most of the tracks on this album, but I always have to fast-forward or skip through Baby's verse.

Basically, if this album would have been absent of Baby, it would have been ALOT better. End of story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hotter Than A Firecracker!!, November 3, 2006
This is the hottest cd going. The lyrics are super tight and even Birdman is rappin' pretty decent. Lil Wayne has arrived. He is definitely one of the top three rappers out there. If you want to hear great lyrics and hot beats, cop this quick but caution to the buyer: Wear mittens because this cd is HOT!!

The Birdman and Lil Wayne did it again. They give it to you real in this album. Lil Wayne spits fire on all the tracks just like usual. Pick this album up and you will not be disappointed. Keep thuggin in the N.O. and Baton Rouge!

4.0 out of 5 stars Remember the old cashmoney days?, November 2, 2006
Really 4.5 stars. Do you remember the days of ol' where juve was on fire turk was out of jail and lil wayne was walking in BG's shows? If your a old cashmoney fan...I mean when they had the gold chains and 400 deegreez was just coming out...you will love this CD....Now when Weezy says he's the best rapper alive your average rap fan will not understand what he's saying. for the amateurs dig through the past cashmoney albums and see how he has progressed to become what he is now, then tell me he cant be considered at least in the top 3. And most of all Weezy has yet to sell out and resort to pop music like to many supposed to be gangsta rappers (50 cent). Lyrically Weezy can't be touched. "the first time I got high I had 2 "O"'s like Ohio"...Just a taste of what you'll get if you but this album. That early no limit, early cashmoney, early ghetto boys, southern, slow, heavy bass havin', gangsta rap. Truly a thing of beauty...if you look at it from a hip hop point of view.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocrity runs in the family, November 22, 2006
Since Juvenile, B.G. and Turk left Cash Money most people thought it would be over for the record label. Lil Wayne was able to keep the label afloat by himself with his three albums. If you think this album is going just because of Lil Wayne alone then you're wrong. You keep forgetting one factor: BIRDMAN CANT RAP!!! He has no personality on the mic and his repetitive rhymes make listening to this album a pain in the a**. Over Here Hustlin is a misstep do to the wack rhymes both Wayne and Birdman. Things start to pick up with dope tracks like "Like Father Like Son","You Aint Know", "Dont Die", "Aint Worried Bout S***", "Army Gunz"(Lil Wayne's fire solo) and About All That feat Fat Joe. The album nosedives in to wackness after that. Stuntin Like My Daddy is pure garbage. 1st Key is pathetic because all they do is use Pimp C's rhymes from Pocket Full Of Stones to finish each rhyme. Leather So Soft is flat out boring and has the dumbest sample of Jodeci's Feenin that you'll ever hear. More pain and suffering would show up in the form of Know What Im Doing(feat T-Painful and Rick Ross), Get That Money, Out The Pound and Cali Dro feat the ever so wack Dogg Pound. No More feat Allstar Cashville Prince has a weak subliminal thrown at the former Cash Money members but the song is so bad you wont even care to find it. High sounds like Birdman and Lil Wayne were just that when they did that track. Also another thing that makes this album more irritating are the pointless skits which consists of some guy doing his worst Soprano impression. Bottom Line: Like Father, Like Son is one of the worst albums to come out of Cash Money in a while. Anytime Lil Wayne is the only one who holds up a collaboration album it's a problem. Then you have to deal with the limited subject matter and the repetive beats and the fact that BIRDMAN CANT RAP!!! This should have never been attempted and the fact that it came and went shows you how well it was recieved. Cop it to complete your Cash Money collection if nothing else. Standout Tracks: LIKE FATHER LIKE SON, YOU AINT KNOW, AINT WORRIED BOUT S***, DONT DIE, ARMY GUNZ and ABOUT ALL THAT.

Wow! I must say that this one caught me off guard. I mean I know Lil' Wayne has been on fire lately but I still wasn't expecting the quality that I heard on this CD. Collaboration albums tend to dissapoint because the chemistry which is usually great on a couple of tracks ("Stuntin' Like My Daddy") usually cannot sustain a whole album.

I didn't believe that it would be any different when you pair a "Super MC" and a "Business Man" for what is surely a gimmick album. But I was wrong, this album was a very serious project for the two (you can tell from the quality of the production) and the chemistry is real.

The tag team effort works because Baby is not afraid to let BMJR take centre stage, he is comfortable with his Pras or Phife role, getting in where he fits in. Plus the beats are on steroids throughout.

The album is very long but judging from the quality of the bonus disc ("Brown Paper Bag" is sick) they had no choice but to make it long. The subject matter also rarely strays from their tried and tested drug/hustler/pimp tales which is a testament of where commercial hip-hop is in general.

If hip-hop sales are falling its because rappers insist on alienating anyone outside their hood. And even then, I don't here too many tracks from the point of view of the crackhead or the prostitute or even the rapper who is going through everyday struggles. Anyway, I digress.

This album is hot and is a nice fix before Tha Carter III and I Can't Feel My Face

This CD is crazy. Lil' Wayne steps up his lyrical prowess and Birdman is tolerable. T-Mix did a good job taking over for Mannie Fresh. I'd recommend getting the Like Father, Like Son mixtape too. There are some songs from that album that weren't added onto this that are great too. Buy the album at Target, because it is only $10 and there is a 5 song bonus disk added on for free. The bonus CD is hot too but I can see why some of the songs didn't fit on regular CD. Best songs: Stuntin' Like My Daddy, Leather So Soft, You Ain't Know, Cali Dro, and High. The rest are great too but don't standout like these do. Can't wait for Tha Carter III!
