This novel almost made me want to sign up for a mission trip to serve God! For sure it made me want to do better for Him right here where I am. It does get a little preachy sometimes, but it sounds natural, not forced, so it doesn't interfere with the flow of the story. Most of the characters are Christians, but they're believable; they struggle with doubt and frustration and temptation like real people. Even the guy who acts like "Super Christian", Daniel, seems to have some weird inner darkness going on, although that's only hinted at here and there. I wish the author had done more with that, but maybe that's the next book. Anyway, it's a good read if you like Christian fiction.

I had a bit of trouble getting interested in the book but I'm so glad I kept reading. It turns out to be a very good book with characters you will enjoy getting to know except maybe Daniel. He acts like the "perfect" christian but you'll see there is no such thing. Daniel is just as unperfect as the rest of us and it turns out he is a likeable guy after all.

We learn from the characters what living out your faith really means, going to a third world country can be a dangerous thing as we see in the story of these young people who are risking their lives daily to reach the lost. I wasn't expecting the outcome of one of the missionaries lives, that took me by surprise. The tale is gripping and intense. A true to life story of what missionaries face and how determined they are to get the Word of God to those in other countries.

I received a copy of this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Pretty Cool Book

Not what I expected from looking at the cover, but it's a good story. An interesting assortment of characters and enough action to keep me interested. You really get to know the characters in the first half of the book, so you care about what happens to them when the action takes off in the second half. I enjoyed reading it

The book starts off somewhat awkwardly; exposition occurs in brief sketches that seem to disguise more than they reveal. (I almost felt I was reading a screenplay more than a novel.) But Proske quickly overcomes this once the narrative gets rolling - her strength obviously lies in the interactions of her characters; dialogue has the reassuring ring of authenticity - you believe these are real conversations by real people. The premise of a mission trip to a third-world country provides a wonderful opportunity to highlight the broad spectrum of commitment to faith that really does exist in Christianity today, and the conflicts (and the resolutions of those conflicts) demonstrate how our actions are unavoidably linked to our worldviews. I was relieved that the author avoided trite, deus ex machina interventions, and instead presented a completely believable picture of what "living out your faith" means in everyday life, even (or especially) when tragedy occurs. It was also refreshing to see a dozen young men and women living and working together without the unnecessary sexual exploits that many authors feel they must introduce to provide readers a thrill. *SPOILER ALERT* The intense, suspense-filled rescue scene near the end of the story held me in its grip, and the reactions of the young missionaries to the death of one of their own brought tears of sympathy to my eyes - bravo! The author promises that the story will continue in the next book, and I am eagerly awaiting its release - you should be on the lookout as well!

Highly recommended for those taking short or long term mission trips. Very gripping and intense story on sharing the gospel of Christ and the dedicated youth who do this.

Definitely not what I expected. I hope everyone reads this book. Mission work Is definitely a calling from God. And unfortunately this happens everyday in other countries. The characters just grad your heart and won't let go. Can't wait to read the sequel.
