Counter-Culture Grab Bag from Giorno Poetry Systems, March 2, 2001
This review is from: Like a Girl I Want You to Keep Coming (Audio CD)
Regrettably, the delightfully obscene cover painting by Robert Williams is not pictured above, but if it were, your attention would be peaked... If you're familiar with Giorno Poetry Systems collections, you'll have a pretty good idea what to expect here. If not, get ready for a nice counter-culture grab bag of everything from slamming garage rock to tribal world-beat to spoken word monologues. Highlights: Debbie Harry's rhythmic, tribal "Invocation," David Byrne's lovely, atmospheric "Song For the Trees", Karen Finley's outrageous, hysterical rant about getting Ben & Jerry's ice cream at the 7-11, Rollins Band's high octane live version of "Hard". The #1 track is William S. Burroughs' wonderful piece about the Insane War On Drugs, including the classic line..."Urine Tests? Why our pioneer ancestors would piss in their graves!"
