5.0 out of 5 stars The best tasting and easy recipes
I was given this book 10 years ago and have since since tried many recipes in this book, all of my potluck favorites that get rave reviews come from this book. It has old fashioned easy recipes, special kids sections, hard to find simple recipes like gingerbread houses and easter egg dye. I have used my book so much I am having to buy a second less abused copy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Italian dishes always wrong
As usually the Italian recipes are wrong, totally invented, NO ONE in Italy puts garlic in their lasagne, the meat sauce doesn't have sausage in it, it is cooked for 2 hours and the ingredients are meat, carrots, celery, onion, fresh tomato sause.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, February 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Like Grandma Used To Make (Hardcover)
This book is easy to use and full of "comfort food" recipes. I was delighted to see things like old fashioned Easter egg dye recipes and charming ways of serving foods and snacks (especially the ideas for children's treats). It's definitely a book worth having in your collection.

If you're looking for a good gift to give - for any occasion - you found the perfect thing. This cookbook has great recipes. Easy ones and then the more challenging ones (souffles)! It's the best. And you don't have to pay full price. When I bought it I immediately made 3-4 things. Everything was a hit. Don't think you could be disappointed with the recipes if you get one!

5.0 out of 5 stars The neatest cookbook, I have ever seen!, March 21, 2009
This review is from: Like Grandma Used To Make (Hardcover)
This cookbook it is so great and really fun to look at. It has great pictures and wonderful "historical" stories about each recipe. But, what else would you expect from Reader's Digest? The recipes in this book are really good, and it has stuff you would still cook and eat today. I made the miner's pie when I checked it out from my old library and it was really good! This is one recipe book, you'd probably make more than one recipe from. I can't wait to order my own copy from amazon!

When I cook for people my age, those who grew up in the 50's, I pick four or five recipes from this book and ask them what they want me to make for them. This is real comfort food and I have never made anything from this book that was not a huge hit. Everyone loves it. I gave copies to both my daughter-in-laws. The chicken pot pie recipe is worth the price of the book.

The book was what I expected. I already had one and wanted to give one to a friend. I like the nutrition guide included with each recipe and the adjustments made to the old fashioned recipes to give them less sodium and fat.

This is a cookbook I have personally owned for many years and use quite often. I bought and gave this new purchase to a grandniece as a wedding gift. I am sure she will enjoy its wonderful recipes also and enjoy cooking healthy meals for herself and her family. It arrived within the shipping time of the USPS in good condition.
