A different road for Fall Out Boy, some have compared this song to modern jazz, or soul. But nope, this song is just great alternative rock. 'Lawyer' veers off the usual pop/rock/power-rock approach to song, and instead goes for a power-pop move, which is pulled off very nicely by Patrick Stump's studio vocals. In terms of structure, the song starts off nicely with some rather simple verses, but really excels with a magnificent chorus in all it's shining power-pop glory. The song is also rather catchy, and still holds up well with me after awhile, so it doesn't wear on you like some of their other songs.
So overall, I would say Fall Out Boy's best song in terms of quality, and style. While some may not like it, this is a great underrated power-pop song with an even-better chorus. |
