Dr. Conn displays a wonderful writing style with the history of the Church of God. Reading as a Novel, it lays the foundations of the Church of God, history of leaders, as well as writing through the eyes of one that loves the group in which God has called him to minister

Having personally known the organization of which he writes, Conn, who is well suited to write this church history, tracks the 19th century beginning of this pentecostal organization through its growth phase and ends with its leadership stumble in the mid 1950s. "...how have the mighty fallen..." The book chronicles the steps of the typical red hot mission as it matures and then looses from its moorings to become institutionalized in concrete, now a mere shadow of what it could have been (and could still become), had it avoided its leadership missteps of the Fifties.

I bought this book for my husband as a gift last year so he could learn more about the Church of God history. It is a rather large and thick book and he is not an avid reader. However, this book was VERY intersting, educational and informative to him and an exceptionally good read. It answered his questions and increased his knowledge level and he has talked to many others about the book. If you are interested in the history of the Church of God, we would highly recommend this book.

I know this author so I wanted to read the book. It is basically a history book on The Church of God with headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee. Anyone wanting to know about the Pentecostal Church of God would benefit from reading this book.
