Ok if you like the TV novels,
This review is from: Like Mother, Like Daughter (Gilmore Girls, No. 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm not a big fan of TV novels, but I thouhgt I'd give this one a try since I like the show so much. It was about what I was expecting. The stories are told from Rory's point of view. In reading the stories you miss out on a lot of classic Loreli moments (Loreli and her mom; Loreli and Luke) It's basically a summary of what you see on the TV screen, but only Rory's side, so it seems like you're missing half of the story. I like the fast paced dialog on the show, but it seems to lose something trying to read it on the page. This was easy reading. If you need a light hearted book I would suggest this.

Fan of the show,
By Tyler (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Like Mother, Like Daughter (Gilmore Girls, No. 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
If you miss the witty zingers and snide remarks that Lorelai threw in every episode of Gilmore Girls, this book will enable you to re-live those moments and laugh at those idiosyncratic exchanges between Lorelai and Rory. The book does a good job of condensing half a TV season into 150 pages without sacrificing key points of the show. The story in the book is told from the point of view of Rory. The adaption does a good job of detailing Rory's inner thoughts on her mother, school, boyfriend, and grandparents -- thoughts that were absent on the TV show. All in all, this book is a fun read for the summer.

More on The Gilmore Girls,

This review is from: Like Mother, Like Daughter (Gilmore Girls, No. 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
The first book in the Gilmore Girls book series, it is an excellent tie-in to the well-written and smart show. In the show, you get the snappy dialogue, as well as the cozy scenery. In this book, you get the inner thoughts and backstory of the town and more of each character. If you enjoy the show, you can further your viewing enjoyment by reading these tie-in books. This one in particular will introduce you to the characters if you are new to the show or would like more background. Recommended along with other teen series books such as Charmed, Smallville, Queen B Superheroine, and 7th Heaven.

A Unique Perspective,
By
This review is from: Like Mother, Like Daughter (Gilmore Girls, No. 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
Like Mother, Like Daughter is the first in a series of episodic books which enhance the storyline of each show. After reading this book, one comes away with more information and insight into the characters, vis a vis what led up to a specific scene and, more importantly, a subjective view of Rory's character and her perspective in any given situation. I applaud the writers for publishing these books! The unique relationship between mother and daughter is fully explored, giving the viewer of the show more insight into the their lives. I would love to see a book written from Lorelai's perspective. What cannot be played out on the show because of time restraints, is wonderfully written in this book as well as "I Love You, You Idiot." I highly recommend fans to read these series of books. They fill in the blanks and replay the dialogue, which enriches the show and its characters. Brava!

Only for the uninitiated,

As a big fan of the series (yes I'm not ashamed to admit it!), I don't feel a need to buy this, unless I'm looking for collector's items - the reason why this show is such a work of genius is the superb acting by the main cast, and the excellent work done by Amy Sherman Palladino, its creator. So go buy the soundtrack (you won't regret it if you love the show), read the episode transcripts (available at Gilmore-girls.net), buy the dvds (which I won't, because they can't be played where I am - here I insert a tiny plea for the dvd format to be changed :o) Pleeease!)... but there's little point buying the book, unless you haven't seen the first season before. For the rest of us who've spent the past few years captivated by our favourite mother-daughter team, you'll want the magic of the show, the real thing. The story re-written by someone else just doesn't cut it, I'm afraid.

Gilmore Girls...,
By Ivy Sparrow "The Great Sparrow" (Soon to be Author) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Like Mother, Like Daughter (Gilmore Girls, No. 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is tightly based on the first few episodes of Gilmore Girls. There are no additions or changes to the show so if you're looking for extras you won't find them. The first few episodes are a little bland to me because I have seen them so many times so the book was a little boring. But if you haven't seen them then you will like it. One of the main flaws (for me) is that I don't like Rory and Dean together because I'm more of a Jess and Rory person. But this whole book is good if you missed an episode off Gilmore Girls or if you want to watch (read) the episode again.

This is a hilarious book that combines the first few episodes of the first season. This book was really great for someone like me, who missed the first season and needs to get caught up on the show. This is one of the best books I've read in a long time, and trust me that's something because I read alot.

Love for the girls called Gilmore,

I am a follower of the show and I love the wit and the presence the character's give off. This book can show these traits, but at times you lose what the character is really like (some of the dialogue doesn't follow what the character would really say.) This book is a fairly quick read with some funny moments and a definite must have for a devout Gilmore Girl fan.

If you've already seen the Gilmore Girls TV show, then you'll like this book! It has a lot of the dialogue from the show.
It covers episodes: -The Pilot -The Lorelais' First day at Chilton -Kiss and Tell -Rory's Dance -Forgiveness and Stuff If you haven't seen the TV show, you should read this book, (or the whole Gilmore Girls book series!) and then watch the show. I think it would be very interesting to see all the charactors after reading the book(s).

I've only read, "Like Mother Like Daughter" and "The Other Side of Summer" so far in the Gilmore Girls series so far, but I keep up with the tv show as well and I gotta say, the Gimore Girls are my favorite! The books are great, and I plan on buying all the ones I haven't read already because when I start reading the books, I can't put them down! Buy these books; they're great for anyone who enjoys the show!
