First of all let me say that Renita Walker is the truth! Like Night & Day is an instant hood classic. Renita has crafted a page-turning novel told by the intriguing and sexy Goldie as she hustles on the wicked Detroit streets.

On the surface Goldie seems to be just another round the way chick from the hood but underneath this facade she uses her beauty and brains to out smart other hustlers and make her money. You can't knock her hustle! But with jealous girls hating, shady friends and even shadier family members trying to get over on Goldie it amazing she's able to stay ahead of the game.

But Goldie does suffer from one weakness, the classic case of a hot chick that wants a bad boy syndrome. Goldie gets a bad case of that when she meets Manish, a powerful drug dealer who's known for using women to set dudes up then robbing them for all their paper. Goldie easily gets Manish to fall for her charms and in her bed but when Manish begins to control her life getting rid of him becomes a matter of life and death.

Renita keeps it so hood on this debut that it's amazing that a certain major hip-hop lit Publisher let her get away. Somebody dropped the ball big time. This book is pure fire! As one author to another I tip my hat to ya ma! I highly recommend this book if you are into urban/street fiction. Much prop's to Renita Walker and I can't wait for her next one!

3.0 out of 5 stars Moet, August 4, 2009

Hailing from the city of Detroit, Goldie the "light-skinned cutie" is the girl that turns heads wherever she goes.

When Goldie, meets a man unlike any other that she has dated, a man that is attentive, sweet and charming she gets a taste of what real love is supposed to feel like. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond their control, this relationship doesn't last.

After suffering a great loss, Goldie agrees to go out on a blind date, with Manish. Although he tells her he is a business man she knows he makes his money in the streets. How else would he be able to buy her all the minks, gators, trips and shopping sprees? Manish may spoil her but he has a different side to him, a sinister side to him that is not to be taken lightly. Goldie gets tired of all the drama and when she gets it in her head to leave, it just may be easier said than done.

LIKE NIGHT & DAY by Renita M. Walker, was an okay read. The story has this reader wondering if the story is based on true events. Nevertheless the story was somewhat irritating, because I don't know how many times the author made reference to the many shopping sprees Goldie went on and what was bought out on these shopping sprees, then when the characters went out to eat, what each character ordered, what each character put on for the day, and of course Goldie's drink of choice was MOET. That was unnecessary filler pages. I get it Goldie was living "hood rich!" I didn't feel there was much of a story and some parts were repetitive, the story picked up the last 50 pages or so. All in all this was just an okay read, nothing more...nothing less.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like Night and Day, August 28, 2011
This review is from: Like Night & Day (Paperback)
Great read. Goldie took to long to leave Manish, she should have been gone halfway through this book. It doesn't take a blind man to see what Manish was doing to her, intimidating, lying, cheating, etc... Wonderful.

3.0 out of 5 stars Like Night and Day, August 24, 2009
This review is from: Like Night & Day (Paperback)
Goldie is a hustler and about her money.Tequila is her best friend who is a single parent. They both have each others back no matter what each of them goes through. After suffering the loss of her boyfriend,Goldies agrees to go on a blind date with Mannish. At the start of their relationship, all was well.As time went on, Goldie saw another side to Mannish. Goldie is ready to leave him but finds its easier said than done.
Like Night & Day was an average story and I found it to be an okay read.It kept my attention but it read like the typical street book.Nothing really stood out.The drama between Mannish and Goldie did keep me wanting to see how there situation played out. What got on my nerves throughout the whole book was the constant name dropping on designer clothing labels and drinks.Goldie's character loved Moet. It's fine that she likes Moet but the author didnt have to keep reminding the readers that everytime Goldie wanted a drink or wanted to get tore up,she chose Moet. Too much time was spent on labels and not enough on character development.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Men All Pause..., August 12, 2009
This review is from: Like Night & Day (Paperback)
Goldie is your everyday ghetto girl that tries her hand in a mix of things from running dope to running men. Her home girl Tequila is a single mom of two and she's always a day late and a dollar short. The two have a genuine love and respect for each other's gangster and hustle and are continuously grinding in the midst of their partying.

Like Night & Day is your average story of the girl from the hood which includes designer name dropping, getting high, drinking, partying and sexing the man with the most money. The storyline is weak. Too much time is spent on insignificant details instead of better development of characters. The constant pandering to Goldie and how good she looks, how great she dresses, how all the men want her, is aggravating. Like Night & Day entails some realistic issues relating to the drug scene, gambling, abuse, greed, infidelity, ignorance and loyalty. I found Tony to be the most interesting character and would have loved to see more of him. There should have been more scenes exhibiting the love rather than lust in the relationship between him and Goldie. If more work had been placed in creating relationships and true character personalities, Like Night & Day had potential to be a good read. I commend Renita M. Walker on the ending in that she provided a conclusion with just enough of an opening to provide a continuation. But in essence, it was more of a miss than an actual hit in my opinion.

LIKE NIGHT AND DAY
BY: AUTHOR RENITA M. WALKER

Like Night and Day by Author Renita M. Walker introduces you to Goldie and her best friend Tequila hailing from "The Big D" (Detroit, MI). Goldie is your typical around the way girl, whereas Tequila is a single mom raising her two children. Even though both girls possess different quality and characteristic about themselves, they have carried a mutual love and respect for one another.

Like Night and Day by Renita M. Walker was okay; the storyline is unrealistic, and the constant designer name dropping was ridiculous and insignificant to the storyline and plot. There were some grammatical issues that needed to be fixed. In my opinion, Like Night and Day could be a good story, if these issues were fixed.
