5.0 out of 5 stars Solid pick with good spiritual qualities, engrossing, January 13, 1998
Very good character development. I prefer her now over Lori Wick. Keeps me engrossed with an exciting plot and unpredictable endings. Not like Francine Rivers, but with her different style, she ranks at the top of her class.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's a great book that talks about God's forgiveness!!!!!!!!, September 4, 1999

Rachel is a wonderful charactor. She doesn't like what she's doing and she was told that if she doesn't do what Gerald or Corrine say they would put her in jail. Gerald and Corrine were con artists who prey among the rich people and by Corrine's lies they extort money from rich people. Then they met Adam with scars from his days as a British soldier. Rachel and Adam fall in love and there is a great ending. You have to read this one

4.0 out of 5 stars not her best work but still a fun read, November 2, 2000
As far as I know this is Lawana Blackwell's first novel. She does a pretty good job. This first book tends to lean towards the stereotypical romance novel, though. The characters follow the usual pattern for romance novels. The character development is low. But luckily, Lawana Blackwell gets better with each novel she writes. I particularly like her Gresham Series. Good work, Lawana.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than the first edition..., December 15, 2004
This review is from: Like a River Glorious (Victorian Serenade Series #1) (Paperback)
For those of you who have read the first edition of "Like A River Glorious" I would like to let you know of this book.... Lawana rewrote her first edition and this version is much better than the one before. So if you didn't enjoy the first edition you might want to try this new edition. I connected much better with the characters especially with Corrine Hammond. Rachel Jones is a lovely young maid caught in a desperation situation. She is an unwilling partner in an evil intrigue of extortion and blackmail with her employers Gerald Moore and Corrine Hammond. Though she would like very much to leave this household, the fear of being arrested along with her employers held her captive. Then Rachel meets the latest victim Lord Adam Burke who has secluded himself after his war injuries and his fiancee's rejection. Will Rachel escape the vile plot and from Gerald Moore's unsavoury lust? Or will she sacrifice her life in order to save Adam? I am very pleased that Lawana has re-written the book and I'm so looking forward to her new contemporary murder-mystery "A Table by the Window" which will be released next April. I can hardly wait! Please keep up the good work Lawana!

Well-written and not entirely predictable, this novel will take you back to the 1800s. It's themes, however, are timeless. Pleasant bedtime reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Like a River Glorious, July 6, 2008
This review is from: Like a River Glorious (Victorian Serenade Series #1) (Paperback)
This is the most amazing book. It is one of those books that you take with you wherever you go, because you want to read it every chance you get. I found myself not being able to put it down. I am looking forward to the continuation of the story in the next book in this series. Thanks to Lawana Blackwell for sharing her God given talents with all of us.

Rachel, Corrine, and Adam are great charctors! I like Rachel because she was loyal to her friends. I like Adam because he has a stong faith in God. I like Corrine because she realizes her mistakes and accepted God in her life. Way to go Lawana
