5.0 out of 5 stars Like Sands Through the Hourglass, October 31, 2005
From the moment I started this book, I haven't been able to put it down. The instant I finished it, I started reading it over again. Bill and Susan Hayes, the darlings of Days of our Lives, have put forth not only their own love story, but so many stories from Days and other areas of show business. I loved reading about the early days of television and Your Show of Shows with Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca, funny stories about Leonard Bernstein, and heartwarming memories of close friendships that develop after working day in and day out on a soap opera. Bill's memories of his early childhood in a close-knit musical family and Susan's tales of growing up in a boarding house with her mother and grandmother only make these two wonderful actors seem more real and easy to be with. This book is funny, heartwarming, and honest. If you are a fan of Days of our Lives, you will love it. If not, give it a try. This book will touch your heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Meaning of True Love, October 24, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Reading "Like Sands Through the Hourglass" is like savoring a delicious cup of coffee, you want to drink it but not too fast, because then it's gone and you want to enjoy it as long as you can. That is how it is to read the love story of Bill and Susan Hayes, aka Doug and Julie Williams from Days of our Lives. Even if you had never heard of or were not a long-time fan of Doug and Julie, this book would be hard to put down, it is written with such honesty and heart. It is so wonderful to read about a true and lasting love, especially in today's world where love seems to be very disposable. Bill and Susan Hayes have put their heart and soul into every word and every page is even better then the one before it. Get this book as fast as you can, just be aware, once you start it, you won't want to put it down!

I am 55 years old and have watched Days since it's beginning. All three of my children as well as my mother have watched it at one time or another. Even my son is hooked on Days and tells me if he knows Julie and Doug will be on. Their story provides so much continuity to the show and this book is a delight. It is so well written and shows their great love for each other and the show. This book has a lot of feeling and "Life" in it just like Days of Our Lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Read...What a Ride!, October 24, 2005
Just when I thought the soaps were losing their grip on daytime TV, along came this saucy memoir by America's first afternoon 'Super Couple.' Now I know why I spent countless hours hunkered down in front of my TV. Bill and Susan Hayes are an ageless hero and heroine with more than 30 years of soap opera experience--and they look better than ever. I loved reading their story: it's camera...lights...action (plenty of action!!!) in a page-turner that's unexpectedly well-written. It's a must-read if you want to know what really goes on behind the scenes of a TV soap. Here is story after unforgettable story that tells all about their on-and-offscreen lives. It's Love Letters between the covers (of a book, that is)!

5.0 out of 5 stars It'll Knock Your Socks Off!, November 8, 2005

Reading "Like Sands Through the Hourglass" is like spending time with two dear, very warm-hearted friends. These two authors have an excellent command of the English language and are able to pull the reader right into their own soul with just the right word. Bill's background in the Golden Age of TV and Radio and on Broadway was skillfully told with a sense of awe and respect for the people who hired him. Susan's background in Hollywood plays, movies and television was revealed with a sense of understanding of the times and a well-honed sense of humor. The book was surprisingly candid, funny, and touchingly personal. Bill's and Susan's love for each other and for life is so apparent. Doug and Julie were the only reason I watched Days of Our Lives, but they have nothing on Bill and Susan! It was a sad moment when I finished the book! You will love it!

In 1976 Bill and Susan Seaforth Hayes made television history by becoming the first and only soap opera stars to grace the cover of "Time" magazine. During this era both Bill and Susan, and the show they starred on "Days of Our Lives", were at their peak. Critics and fans referred to the Hayes as soaps' royal couple and viewers were enthralled not only by the characters they played but by the Hayes themselves. Before Susan Lucci, people who didn't watch soaps knew Bill and Susan Seaforth Hayes for they also appeared on numerous talk shows and received multiple Emmy nominations.
In this fantastic book Bill and Susan takes the reader on their journey from their early life to when they met on the "Days" set in 1970 and how they immediately fell in love. They recount their favorite stories on the series as well as beloved cast members with whom they instantly became life-long friends with.
This book is for the ultimate soap fan and it's a nice volume of info for the ardent "Days of Our Lives" fan who would like to know what went on in the serial back in the 1970's from feuds to storylines.
Another great book on "Days" was written in 2010 by "Days of Our Lives" executive producer Ken Corday called "Days of Our Lives: The True Story of One Man's Dream".

Wow! This read is an honest look at love, loss, lessons learned and making peace with self. A must read--not only for all the people who grew up with Doug and Julie, but anyone who has ever felt any or all of the above. They even put "their ugly stuff on the porch". A super book!!!!

Great love story between Bill and Susan. Their personal story is as magical as Doug and Julie's, the characters who they portray. Great behind the scenes from the Days set. I could not put this book down!!
