5.0 out of 5 stars A favorite, April 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Like a Seabird (Audio CD)
I first heard Olomana live at the Honolulu Zoo at a family night concert. Their version of 'The Lion' remained with me. But later I moved to Kahalu'u (the place in the song) and this song became my 'heart.' This is the album I sought after leaving Hawaii nei. This is the group I went to hear upon my first visit home. The banyan tree it brings to mind is the one by Hygenic Store. This album was released in 1976 ! It's still timely for me. I also love 'Seabird.' Olomana changed thru the years, but this simple beginning is a testament to a couple of young men who drew from their country roots. They hadn't yet recorded much in Hawaiian, but the feeling is pure Hawaiian. The younger people may call this 'old-fashioned' but their place in the history of contemporary music is secure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like A Seabird, December 17, 1999

This is a must for everyone who enjoys Hawai'ian music. The CD contains the Olomana classics Ku'u Home O Kahaluu and Ku'u Lei Awapuhi. Whenever I listen to this CD I am magically transported back home to the old days sitting under the banyan tree on Waikiki listening to Olomana.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for all ex-pats from Hawai'i!, April 12, 2002
This review is from: Like a Seabird (Audio CD)
I have to tell you that when I moved to LA in 1980, this was one of the albums I listened to most.

And every time I listened to Ku'u Home O Kahalu'u I cried absolutly inconsolably, I missed home so much.

It is one of the most beautiful songs in the world, and truly captures the longing that all Kama'ainas have when they remember the life the had in Hawaii.

Thank you, Robert and Jerry!
Olomana no ka oi!

5.0 out of 5 stars New Love Found, October 24, 2002
This review is from: Like a Seabird (Audio CD)
One of the best things about having spent twenty years in the Air Force is meeting great people, the second is finding new music, new to me at least. Olomana is one of the best I found in my travels and keeps a bit of Hawaii with me. Never heard of them, give this CD a try, then try out Country Comfort. Your are never too old for great music and I ran across some of the best in my three years in Hawaii.

5.0 out of 5 stars Numba One, April 5, 2010

Ku'u home o Kahalu'u is my all time favorite Hawaiian kine song. Fo'eva and eva. This song brings you back to the days of when we were young, like it says in the song. I especially like how the progression of the song shows humbleness at the end, where Jerry Santos asks, "Please accept me as you find me." Unreal.

The reason this album, and Ku'u Home O Kahalu'u in particular, is because that song was my class song when I graduated from Kalaheo High School in 1980. Olomana is the mountain you see when you look southeast from Kalaheo, and I climbed it more than once.

Oldies, but goodies, what can I say. You have to be there. My wonderful sister and brother-in-law introduced me to this CD. Get it when you can.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best, January 6, 2009
This review is from: Like a Seabird (Audio CD)
This album makes me cry everytime I listen to it. It also brings back the memories of seeing them in concert. They were awesome live as well. Sadly, Robert Beaumont passed away before he could create more of this soulful music. (i'm sorry to this day that i didn't accept his lei after we saw them at conroy bowl)
Buy this album. It will make you feel like you are gliding like the titular seabird on the wind.
