Book Description

October 1, 2009

From the editors of the Lambda Award–winning First Person Queer: intelligent, sexy, true-life tales of gay men's desire. The stories push at the parameters of queer erotic life, featuring contributors both novice and well-known; subject matter ranges from single, significant encounters to the ephemera of emotional desire that never lead to physical pleasure. Throughout, the book deals with the essential erotics of queer male life, to be used as a launching point for exploring the queer male condition: essays that delve into the diverse manifestations of desire between and among men.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Hot but smart, passionate yet reflective, the collection presents work by both new and seasoned writers, delving deep into their erotic memories to tell true stories of sex and desire.
Xtra! (Xtra! 20090924)

Richard Labonté and Lawrence Schimel have become masters of the queer literary anthology. Between them, they have edited over 40 books of queer writing, much of it gay erotic fiction, winning numerous lit awards for their efforts.... Their latest, I Like It Like That, will not disappoint. An eclectic collection of tall tales of sex and sexual longing, the stories run the spectrum but remain consistent in quality. This is an enticing selection, one that makes you want to reread particular stories, and they’ve once again done the laudable thing of including queer household names (like Sky Gilbert and Paul Bellini) alongside relatively new writers and emerging stars (like Shuck author Daniel Allen Cox).
Montreal Mirror (Montreal Mirror 20091116)

[I Like It Like That] a reminder that virtual sex is best when it comes with a storyteller’s skills, triggering your own memories of lust and love.... There’s dizzying variety in these 34 entries.
—Jim Bartley, Xtra! (Xtra! 20100104)

At once provocative and insightful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone, in this well-written gay erotic anthology, September 2, 2009

This review is from: I Like It Like That: True Stories of Gay Male Desire (Paperback)
One thinks of "sexual diversity" as differentiating between the basic categories of sexual orientation, but it is much more than that. Within one such category, gay males, lies an almost unlimited number of variations of desires, fantasies and fetishes, many of which are explored by the authors contributing to this new anthology, edited by the team that brought us "First Person Queer" and "Second Person Queer."

Consisting of thirty-four vignettes, averaging about five pages each, by a talented group of authors including Larry Duplechan, Jeff Mann, Shaun Levin, Aaron Hamburger and Tim Miller. The subjects range from football and wrestling fetishes, to fantasies about seducing "straight" men, older men, bodybuilders, S&M, threesomes or "bears," and erotic takes on massage, "hooking up" via the internet or phone chat lines. Also included are two illustrated stories by Justin Hall and Steve MacIsaac, known for their gay comics and graphic novels, respectively.

There is likely something here for every gay man, well written and presented better than in most other erotic anthologies. I give it a full five sweaty stars out of five!
