3.0 out of 5 stars An Eye-fold of The Queen of Pop!, December 31, 2008

This review is from: Like a Virgin: the Ultimate Critical (DVD)
This documentary is a great critical analysis of Madonna's rising fame from her early beginnings. It features music experts and respectable individuals that give their input on how Madonna has reached such Iconic status! Interviewees included are: Les Davidson [Producer & Musician], Toby Anstis [Radio DJ], Johnny Dee [Music Journalist], Jonathan Wingate [Music Journalist], Matthew Jesse [Film Maker and Writer], and Carol Clerk [Music Journalist].

There is another DVD titled, MUSIC IN REVIEW with a stunning outer artwork that has Madonna in a Marylin Monroe style much more interesting. That specific documentary has what is said in this one plus better viewing to a degree and minus other extras here. Also, there is a DVD that has the MUSIC IN REVIEW and a book with much nicer found here: Madonna: Music in Review.

This has interview clips of "Jonathan Ross Presents... Erotica Madonna", "Wogan Meets Madonna", "Girlie Talk" and others. As each expert speaks about the impact Madonna has had in the culture then the clips pop in along with music performances which include Blond Ambition Tour in Japan performance of "Papa Don't Preach" , Live Aid "Into The Groove", MTV "Vogue" Performance, "Like A Virgin" MTV Video Music Awards, and "Everybody" to name a few. Videos are also put like "Material Girl" and a few others. Unlike the DVD titled, "Music Box" or Madonna- Do You Think I'm Sexy Unauthorized this does not have rare clips or interviews from that set.

This is a phenomenal viewing to get to know how Madonna reached such fame and ICONIC status and to get key insight and highlights from songs such as, "Like A Virgin", "Everybody", "Material Girl", "Over and Over", "Dress You Up" and "Papa Don't Preach" that made such an impact. The culture of America and how it relates to Madonna's music is lightly touched as revealing how controversy definitely played a part in Madonna's shock and cultural awareness to homophobia, ageism, and other topics. This was a fascinating and much entertaining documentary definitely recommended for die-hard fans or for those who would like to get to know who this Super Star Madonna is!
