Worth more than one listen.,

I've been listening to James' new album for about a week now and with the exception of a couple of songs, I really like it. It's bluesy and yet upbeat and fun. I really enjoy the guitar work. It's not perfect - I barely made it through the first song and hoped it wasn't a portent of things to come, but as soon as he lit into the short but winsome "Looking at You" I was hooked. The blues riffs that pepper this album are a joy. At $25 the price is a bit steep, but it was worth it to me to support independent musicians. Recommended.

I first heard these songs on YouTube.I knew James sang but I wasn't aware he had out solo albums. If you are expecting Spike's accent it isn't there. On the other hand I really enjoy James singing style and the songs he writes. This album is easier to get then his first solo CD "Civilized Man" but I like both(still trying to buy the first) and can't wait for more. You don't have to be a Buffy fan to like James' music. So give it a try!

Different from other work,
This review is from: Like A Waterfall (Audio CD)
I too, am a fan of Buffy and recently discovered James as an Artist. This Cd is very different from his other works in Ghost of the Robot and from his other Cd Civilized Man. Unlike the other Cd's this one has a more blues feel and a bit lighter than his other work.
I guess if you're a really hardcore fan, you'd want it for novelty reasons but not so much for quality of Marster's work. I don't mind it, but I prefer his older stuff. More rockish, less blues.

I just met James for the first time in Orlando this weekend. I heard a little bit of his music a while back but really had not felt it was my style. When I met him though I ended up going to see the concert he was going to do that night. I stood in front of the stage and watched him play an acoustic set. He talked about each song and what they meant to him. I watched as he played the guitar and sang the songs he wrote. At the end of the concert I asked for the song list he used that night and he gave it to me. I went and purchased this cd, I put it in my car and played it the entire way home. The next day I saw James again and told him that I enjoyed him acting out Joss Whedon's words during Buffy but watching him perform what he wrote was even better. There are a couple of songs on the cd that i have to be in the mood for, but the others are great they are catchy and the words stay with me. My favorites are London City, becausae I can actually see myself back in London. I also like Looking at You, Like a Waterfall, and Up on me.

I really enjoy James Marsters' music, and I like this cd alot. He has an amazing voice, and the songs "Looking at You" and "Up On Me" had me hooked imeditaly. It is quite a bit different than his first one, and I have to say, I liked the first one a bit more. This one has a lot more blues to it, and not so much rock. But if you are a fan of James, then it is defenitly worth it.

This was an unusual album because some of the songs were Blues, but I don't know how to characterize others. James has a beautiful voice. My favorite? "Louise". It tickles my funny bone because part of MY name is "Louise" and I am about the total opposite of the song-person. "Like a Waterfall", the title song, is very easy to sing altho I don't quite understand the points being made. There seems to be some sexual ambiguity there.
When I listen to this album, I listen to it over and over. I get tired of it and don't play it again for about a week.

I love this cd and its amazing. If I could only find a copy of Civilized man by James. Maybe I will at his show in New Jersey on February 15th.

Lacking in excitement,

I have been a fan of Buffy and James Marsters for years, but was not thrilled with this at all. The music was boring and not as exciting as his brief singing spots on Buffy. I'd pass on this one.
