5.0 out of 5 stars ROOTS RONNIE!
Get back to Ronnie's Roots with this one! I am grateful to the good people who were there to document Ronnie's Rising Star! Dig Deep and enjoy this early feast for your ears.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite the masterpiece that blues master claims
While I will agree with Blues Master on one or two points, I feel that his exuberance is largely unjustified. Comparing Ronnie Earl to T- Bone Walker is like comparing prime rib to matzah. It has been said that Ronnie Earl never used to tune his guitar before live performances, and that can certainly be observed on this recording. There are two "e"s on a...

4.0 out of 5 stars Missing tracks, April 13, 2008

The thirteen tracks listed in Amazon's entry for "I Like It When It Rains" matches what was originally printed on the back liner notes for the recording. However, on the copy I received through a second-party Amazon seller, tracks six through eight in the liner notes have been taped out, leaving a total of only 10 tracks. The tracks listed on the disc itself confirm this total:
1. Ridin With Ronnie
2. Linda
3. Midnite Clothes
4. Mutcika
5. I Like It When It Rains
6. Walkin and Cryin
7. Down on Guadalupe
8. Anna Lee
9. Sittin on Top of the World
10. Blues for Jimmie and Jessie

i didn't think this ronnie was as good as some of the black top stuff - deep blues, soul searchin', peace of mind - it is still ronnie earl. he carries the title of guitar virtuoso, and deservedly so. any ronnie earl disc is worth owning, this one included.

5.0 out of 5 stars blues master, December 6, 2000

Not since Robert Lockwood jr. has a guitar player mastered the intense soulfulness of Ronnie Earl. Ronnie's earlier recordings on the Black Top label pale in comparision to this record. The single string guitar riffs are smooth, and crisp in the vain of T-Bone Walker, while the Broadcasters make you feel as if your standing in a Chicago juke joint. The song selection is a perfect mix of instumental, and throaty tin pan alley numbers. A must have!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ten songs but ten good 'uns, February 8, 2011
This review is from: I Like It When It Rains (Audio CD)
I have ten songs on mine, total of 40 min. Mostly slow blues, one Russian or Gypsy flavored tune ("Mutchika"), and a deeply felt, dark toned cover of the Mississippi Sheiks (best known as by Howlin' Wolf) "Sittin On Top Of The World". Title song is similar to "Sitting" as well. Of course, all instrumentals, mostly electric slide guitar features-which has always been Ronnie's forte. "Down On Guadalupe" has a jazzy Robert Lockwood feel, and "Ridin' With Ronnie" is fast 50's rock & roll with piano sharing the lead with Earl. Nice but brief disc, evidently kinda rare. Recorded in 1990.

It has been said that Ronnie Earl never used to tune his guitar before live performances, and that can certainly be observed on this recording. There are two "e"s on a guitar, but only one "e" in team. Comprende?
