5.0 out of 5 stars Good lessons for the younger reader, December 13, 2009
This review is from: I Like To Whine!: Dealing With Whining Children (Paperback)
I enjoy the way that this author sets out to get a message across and does it in a way that can be comprehended by children. The pictures and poetry are well suited and the very different voices of the characters distinguish well the moral values dealt with in the book. I also like the fact that the author finishes the book off with an activities page that encourages the lessons learnt within to be revisited.
The artwork is suitable for the age group the book is aimed at and I am sure it will be pointed at by little fingers as it is read to them.

5.0 out of 5 stars To whine or not to whine. This book helps solve the problem!, December 11, 2009
This review is from: I Like To Whine!: Dealing With Whining Children (Paperback)
A whining child will drive any parent a little bit nuts. But, let's face it, we all whine to some extent. This book shows how annoying whining can be but in a very funny way. The author shows various whining scenarios with different animals. Some examples are quite common like refusing to eat, share toys, or clean his/her room. A wise owl explains the result of the animals' actions or non-actions. Each case gets across the point but makes it funny and light-hearted. And, both the child and parent will see how annoying and unproductive it is when someone constantly whines. The illustrations are great. This book will teach a lesson while making both the child and parent laugh. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book to Deal with Whining!, December 14, 2009

This review is from: I Like To Whine!: Dealing With Whining Children (Paperback)
I'm not sure when whining became so socially acceptable, but I believe that the book "I Like To Whine" by William Bentrim will give young children (and perhaps some adults) a lesson about it and why it isn't a such a good thing to do.

The pictures are colorful and appropriate and the author does a good job with the examples of whining. They are all something that children can understand and relate to. I think the best part, though, is at the end of the book with the activities page. One of the suggestions is to have children role play with a parent to experience what the whining sounds like from the other side of the fence...what an excellent idea! Children are much more likely to remember something if they can experience it.

I highly recommend this book. It should be a part of every parent's collection for teaching children the best social behaviors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoy a book about a fine "whine"..., September 27, 2009
This review is from: I Like To Whine!: Dealing With Whining Children (Paperback)
This is a fun and different reading experience for both parent and child. Let's face it, we all whine, even `us' adults. Kids whine too, and as a parent, it can be frustrating. What I like about this book is that it reminds parents that kids have the same moods we do and don't always know the best way to express themselves. I also like the humor--I laughed out loud more than a few times--and the illustrations. What's really great is the way the book is set up--the child can read the parent's part (the wise old owl) and the parent can read the child's part (the whining kid); both will have a few laughs while the child gets to hear how whining sounds and tries to react as a parent might. I highly recommend this entertaining children's book for all children and their little whiners (or parents)!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Like To Whine!, June 11, 2009
This review is from: I Like To Whine!: Dealing With Whining Children (Paperback)
You know it when you hear it. The one thing that children seem to be automatically programmed with that can drive parents up the wall in 2 seconds flat is whining! This book helps to teach both child and parent how to break this bad habit. Cute colorful characters along with an example of a classical whine is illustrated on each page. An old wise owl uses rhymes to teach your child why whining will not help them get what they want. This book is a great way to talk to your child about the way you feel when someone whines. And at the back of the book there are suggestions and activities that you can use to finally break this all time annoying habit!

5.0 out of 5 stars Review for I Like to Whine - Great tool for children and parents, June 8, 2009
This review is from: I Like To Whine!: Dealing With Whining Children (Paperback)
I Like To Whine!: Dealing With Whining Children by William G. Bentrim -- I had my 8yo son read this with me. My son whines constantly ,and when he read this , he could relate!! It made him think about those things and i asked him, "are you going to whine anymore?" and he said "probably not except for the car ride" hahahahha . Its a great tool for all children, not just preschool age. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Book for Children, June 6, 2009
This review is from: I Like To Whine!: Dealing With Whining Children (Paperback)
"I Like to Whine" written by William G. Bentrim, a former teacher and guidance counselor, is an absolutely delightful book for preschoolers about whining behavior. Each page has a comical character behaving in a typical childish whining way, and a wise character responding in a kind, gentle, and correct reaction to that behavior. I love that the book does not scold children, but instead gives wise advice at the children's learning level, and Mom and Dad are always respected as authority figures. This is the perfect book for new parents to begin reading to their children, and as the children begin to read, the parents will enjoy listening to children teaching themselves.

At the end of the book the author gives tips on how to use the book to encourage good behavior and how to deal with difficulties along the way. "I Like to Whine" is a perfect book for parents and grandparents to teach good behavior before problems start.
