From the Author

Dear Reader,
I hope you have enjoyed the love story between Jack and Lila. Their story could have easily happened between two people during the Civil War. Ordinary people became heroes and heroines whose stories were not told in the history books. These characters are fictional, but the heartache and passion was all too real in that time period.

As you finished reading "Lila's Vow" did you wonder how Captain David Reynolds and Jennifer Winston got together when they were from opposite sides of the conflict? Exactly what did he do to win her heart? Jenny loved the south and everything about her homeland. Why did she do what she did?
Learn more about Jack's best friend in "Jenny's Passion," from yours truly and Vintage Reflections Publishing.
Happy Reading,
Diane Wylie

More About the Author

Diane Wylie, Author of Romance and Adventure

I love books that will take me on an emotional roller coaster ride. What better genre than romance to do that? I have always particularly loved romances for their dashing heroes and beautiful heroines.

Historical Romances:
Since watching Gone With the Wind as a child, I have also had an avid interest in the American Civil War. This interest comes to bear in my acclaimed historical romance novels, "SECRETS AND SACIFICES," "JENNY'S PASSION," and "LILA'S VOW," along with short story, "A Soldier to Love." "ADAM'S TREASURE", also features some figures from history--Pinkerton agents.

Romantic Suspense:
A recent addition to my group of books is "OUTLAW LOVER", a romantic suspense that draws on my experience growing up as part of an autoracing family.

Fantasy/Paranormal Romances:
A hot, new magical series has now become a reality for me. Each magician gets his power for magic from a different amulet. But his power comes with a price...immortality. Is this a curse or a blessing? Starting with "PRELUDE TO MAGIC", you'll find the introduction to the Mark of the Magician Book One: "MOONLIGHT AND ILLUSIONS". This is now followed by Book Two: "MAGIC OF THE PENTACLE", which was a quarterfinalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest. Come back to this page to see when Book Three will arrive.

About Diane:

I work full time as a technical writer/editor and hope to one day write novels full time. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in biology/animal science. (I had hoped to be a veterinarian, but that didn't work out.)

I live in Maryland with my husband (a former racecar driver), son, and little Welsh corgi, Dixie. I am also happy to live relatively close to my daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren.

I am a very lucky person to have this life and I am grateful beyond words for my loving family.

Thanks for taking the time to visit this page. I hope you like these books and will tell your friends about them. For more information, check out

Ms. Wylie's love of and expertise in the Civil War period shines in all her books, and especially Lila's Vow. Captain Jack Montgomery comes into the life of Lila Sutton on one of the worst days of his life. In June of 1863, in their home, she and her mother nurse soldiers wounded during the battle in their town, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Jack watches her every move, helps out when he can, and falls as quickly in love with Lila as she falls in love with him.

But it's time of war and nothing goes smoothly for the lovers. The only thing for sure is their love and passion and belief in the Union cause. The action never stops. Battle scenes are torturous and heartbreakingly real. Jack's emotions are portrayed so authentically that the reader aches for him and for every soldier serving at the present time in a war zone. Lila doesn't sit home pining away for the man she married before he went back to war. She becomes a Pinkerton agent spying in the South. Information she comes across becomes important enough to the North that it helps end the war. You can just feel that you are living their lives, feeling the anxiety of the wife waiting for the husband to come home and the fear and bravery of the soldier in the middle of the chaos of battle. And just when you think Jack and Lila's world will settle down, Ms. Wylie throws in a surprise.

Lila's Vow hits every point you want in an historical novel. The history is spot on. The romance is lovely, sweet and passionate at the same time. Excitement never ends, and you are kept on the edge of your seat until the very end of the book. Then the end is satisfyingly happily ever after, though you still want the story to go on and on.

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

......."The soldiers are here, Miss Sutton!" Harry ran backward as he yelled to her, his eyes wide with barely contained excitement.

"Which ones, Harry?" Lila's stomach did a flip-flop of panic. Was it the Confederates? Would they burn and pillage the town?

"Ours! The men in blue, Ma'am." ............

" That blond-haired soldier is the one who appeared in my dream. He is the one who will change our lives...."{Excerpts from Book}

Setting... Civil War...Lila Sutton school teacher, and living with her mother. Their home becomes a hospital for the wounded Union Soldiers. Neither mother or daughter having nursing skills, but they still manage to care for all the injured. Jack Montgomery ,Captain of his troop, injured, is taken to the Sutton home......... The blond-haired soldier...... in her mothers dream.
This was such a well written novel that it takes the reader into the midst of the war. As you follow the marriage of Jack and Lila; Jack returning to his troop; through his capture and imprisonment, Reports of his death......... Lila's courage to go on....... This is an amazing book, the characters are outstanding, and they draw you into their life. Ms Wylie is an excellent writer of the civil war era. This is a story with emotion, a wonderful love story and one that you can not put down. If you are a reader that loves Historical Romance then I highly recommend this book. I could not put the book down and read it one day. ......... You will not want to miss any of Ms. Wylie's Historical Romances. I know you will not be the least disappointed.

A touching story that kept me intrigued and turning pages. It's a time period (Civil War) that I've not read enough about. Amazingly, it's a sweet story but very compelling. Diane Wylie put you right in the midst of the horror of war and yet there is a tender side too. Although it is set mostly in Gettysburg (which is in my home state) you still get a feel for the south and makes for an enjoyable read no matter where you hail from.

From the very first paragraph, I was "caught up" in the story and couldn't wait to read what happens next. To me, that's the sign of a good book. If it captures me from the very beginning, then it's a winner! Although there was a good bit about different battles between the North and the South, it wasn't overdone. There was just a nice mix between the love story of Lila and Jack and their separate lives dealing with the war. Great read!
