This is an excellent collection of songs by one of the most popular female singers of the 20th Century.While the photograph on my CD is the same as shown here,it doesn't seem to be exactly the same songs. It was published in 2005 and has 24 songs. About half are in German and half in English.However; Marlene introduces each one of them, which certainly adds to their enjoyment.It is simply an excellent compilation to play anytime as background music or to sit back and become absorbed in her magnificent talent.
Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992) had a surprisingly long career starting in the 30's and extending into the 80's. While her most popular song was probably "Lili Marlene";she was everything from a cabaret singer,a chorus girl,a WWII frontline entertainer,an international show entertainer from the 50's to the 70's, and an amazing film actor.By the end of her career she had become an entertainment icon of the 20th Century. In 1999 the American Film Institute named her the ninth greatest female star of all time.That can mean only one thing ; "She was one of the best".
How can anyone really describe her wonderful talent,personality,magnetism and career? Here's what Ernest Hemingway had to say;
"If she had nothing more than her voice she could break your heart with it. But she had the beautiful body and the timeless loviness of her face.It makes no difference how she breaks your heart if she's there to mend it."
If you don't have Marlene Ditrich in your musical collection;it's not complete.
