Ok, when I decide to buy a manga, three things are importaint to me: art, characters, and plot.

Art - Well, the CLAMP fans will enjoy it. Eyes are drawn in a CLAMPish style. Fans of stick skinny character art will like it, because everyone in this manga should be very emaciated. The art isn't set as firmly in a grid pattern, instead we have some overlapping, which combined with LOTS of floating text bubbles can be a bit confusing, but over all works. There's a lot of energy in the lines themselves, but not a ton of detail. There are also a lot of "posing" moments through-out the manga, which sometimes work and, other times, just seems a little odd.

Characters - Well, in a first volume of any manga, it can be hard to tell. Liling-Po is already an interesting character, while most of the others just seem to have been stuffed in the background. Of course, this is only the first volume so I fully expect things to grow. There's nice tension set up between the main character and his two "keepers". As many volumes as there are, this will have to change eventually.

Plot - Very good. There's some jumping back and forth between past and present, but not too much. The plot moves forward at a steady pace and gets more interesting. Remember those floating text bubbles I mentioned? They do get confusing when more than four show up on a page one almost right under the other. You aren't sure which to read first, especially at times when the art and text are both floating. Over all, it's worth any mild annoyance.
