Ms. Kedar impresses with her command of biblical facts and and ancient folklore, but she makes Lilith's story fresh and entertaining for today's readers.

While we can't help but be wary of a possible encounter with Lilith, it's impossible not to admire her independence, resourcefulness and refusal to accept being put in a place that others have selected for her.

My heart went out to the women of old who had to endure repression and disrespect and obviously did it with great dignity. You will read this book more than once.

3.0 out of 5 stars an interesting read April 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is well cited (referenced) from many old and ancient sources. It has povided a lot of interesting facts about Lillith that I didn't realize (especially the focus on Jewish beliefs) and reconciles conflicting beliefs in the framework of history, religion and culture.

Only 3/5 stars because of this Kindle's editing (and lack thereof) ~ there are many silly little mistakes like "700 hundred" that irked me, especially since the writing is targeted to intellectuals. Also the BPD connection in the title. It implied to me a greater focus on psychology.

Dorit Kedar's Lilith is an engaging and rich examination of a cultural figure that has haunted women's lives and gender relations for centuries. The book is both playful and profound, a charming and satisfying mix of personal commentary, psychological insight, feminist theory, and original historical research. A must-read for all interested in women's bravery and creative resistance in antiquity--and now--to patriarchal oppression.

3.0 out of 5 stars None June 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is written in the style of a scholar with some of the worst writing I have ever seen. Past and present tense used in the same sentence referring to the same noun, very confusing. Subject is very interesting though. Please get someone to edit this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lilith Was A Feminist June 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Like the animals in George Orwell's ANIMAL FARM, Lilith and Adam were created equal, having both been formed from clay at the same time. However, like the pigs in Orwell's famous novel, Adam decided that, although all humans were created equal, some were more equal than others; so when Lilith decided she wanted to change sexual positions once in awhile, with him beneath her, Adam abandons her and asked God to make him another helpmate, this time from his rib. God does so and Lilith is left to fend for herself the best she can.

So begins the story of Lilith the demoness--demonized because she was the first woman to let the first man know she wasn't going to take any guff from him.

Like most creation stories, Lilith's story is tied in with other lore, which is woven into Ms. Kedar's book. Seriously, but not severely, Kedar delves into demonology and other Jewish legends. An enjoyable unfolding of the history of a little-known ancestor. Have fun!

More About the Author

Dorit Kedar is the modern wandering Jew. She travels around the world, looking for inspirational places to write her work. After a career as a mother of two wonderful daughters, a special education teacher and a ghostwriter, she decided to write her own books.

Kedar's first book, "Lilith: the Jewish Demoness - 1000 Years of Border-Line Personality" was published in Hebrew in Israel and now it is available on 'Kindle' in English. It is a friendly non-fiction book which tells the story of a fascinating traditional magic society, which recruits all kinds of supernatural entities and the infamous demoness Lilith. (if you are curious, please have a look here: www.lilith.co.il)

"letters from the red house" is Kedar's second book in English. The book was originally written in Hebrew. It was written in a magical red house near the Delaware River Kedar lived in, while pet-sitting a little mighty dog and two furry cats. The book is about a writer that isolates herself from the world and surrenders herself to a reality mixed with dreams and hallucinations.

Currently, Kedar is working on her third book "Komish - A Fake Biography of a Real Woman". The book will be published later on 2012.
