Women's music at its best, June 14, 2000
This review is from: Lilith Fair: A Celebration Of Women In Music, Volume 2 (Audio CD)
It is quite rare these days to find high quality compilations featuring female artists, but this is an absolute exception. 'Lilith Fair 2' contains a wonderful mix of old and new artists, all of whom sing with great passion and vibrancy. The music comes across as being meaningful and listenable, and successfully captures the diversity which has really brought women's music to the fore. Standout tracks include 'Angels' which is beautifully sung by Sarah and Emmylou, 'Island' by Heather Nova (she truly has an angelic voice), 'Sway' by Bic Runga (she epitomizes warmth and tenderness) and 'In the Ghetto' by the brilliant Natalie Merchant. Moreover, this compilation exudes all that is great about women's music and it truly will not disappoint. If only there were more compilations (other than the 'Lilith series) besides this!

Pretty good CD, May 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lilith Fair: A Celebration Of Women In Music, Volume 2 (Audio CD)
This CD is pretty good. Unlike the first volume, the range of music here stretches slightly beyond the usual folky accoustic types. You see some African (Angelique Kidjo), some rap (Queen Latifah), some trip-hop (Morcheeba) and some alternative rock (Tracy Bonham/Holly McNarland/Wild Strawberries) as well as some ethereal-type music(Sinead O/SarahMc/Emmylou)
My personal favourites are Sinead O's "Fire on Babylon", Angelique K's "Never Know", Queen Latifah's "Life", Morcheeba's "The Sea", Bic Runga's "Sway", Holly Mc's "Elmo" and (my most favourite of all) SarahMc/Emmylou's duet "Angel". WOW! That song had me gaping in wonder. Sarah and Emmylou's melodic vocals beautifully melding together on such a beautiful song creates one thing ; BREATHTAKING MAGIC. Sarah's playing Delibes' Flower Duet at the beginning makes it even more magical.
If you're sick of hearing all those boybands/teen implants (aka Britney Spears)/wailing divas as well as other pop radio stuff) AND you really wanna hear some good quality music, this CD may be your welcome respite. Don't just listen to the samples ; not only do they make the songs sound awful, they also don't reflect the songs in their entirety.
Why the four-star treatment ? Well, I wish there are more artist collaborations like Sarah/Emmylou 's "Angel". Without the collaborations, history will not be able to see that special spirit that makes Lilith Fair. And where are some of the vital artists that appeared on last years tour ; Lauryn Hill, Lucinda Williams..?
To Nettwerk Productions and Arista Records ; PLEASE release the collaborations CD as you had originally planned.

THANK YOU SARAH !!!!, May 18, 1999
This review is from: Lilith Fair: A Celebration Of Women In Music, Volume 2 (Audio CD)
Thank you Sarah for exposing the public to artists that otherwise would go unknown. It is worth buying the C.D. for "Angel" alone. How do you make a great song even better ? Oh I don't know add Emmylou Harris. People, this lady is a national treasure who has never gotten her props because the so called radio and record excutives have either labeled her or haven't labled her properly. Do yourself and your ears a favor, after buying this C.D. and Vol.III of Lilith Fair, start your Emmylou collection. Give her the support and love that she greatly deserves !!!
