Review

"So clearly and passionately does Deborah Grenn-Scott invoke Lilith that the reader cannot help but be changed..." -- Cosi Fabian, founder, WomanQuest Workshops

From the Publisher

In Lilith's Fire, Grenn-Scott examines why and how modern women are still demonized-identified as "bad" for actions perceived as reasonable for men, through techniques used for thousands of years-and how women have started to reverse this tendency by redefining right and wrong. Demonization, she notes, has been effective: controlling, manipulating and dividing women to keep them powerless, pitting Lilith against Eve, "good girl" against "bad girl"; and as a means of keeping one group, religion or idea dominant over another.

In dismantling this technique, the author shows that portrayals of women as innately evil undermine the self-confidence of all women, and in turn their ability to take risks, assume leadership or claim power, from bedroom to boardroom. She provides strong models for women of a more proud, sensual, confident way of being; along the way, she poses difficult questions, such as: How can women become more aware that they have choice? Do we give our religious and spiritual leaders too much power? How do we make change, in our own lives and in the world?

What forms of social action are most effective?

Lilith's Fire opens a dialogue that the author hopes may lead to some answers, as it offers women a transformational tool to help them recognize, appreciate and draw on the strength and creativity of their own lifeforce, the first step in creating positive change.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lilith - The Ultimate Female Rebel, October 27, 2005
This review is from: Lilith's Fire : Reclaiming Our Sacred Lifeforce (Paperback)
I really enjoyed reading this book by Deborah Grenn-Scott. I like the jewish folklore of Lilith, the first woman, before Eve. It's nice to hear of the story...the first woman, equal to a man, who demands to be on top. Women and girls need to have a role model for female power and independence and the story of Lilith fits perfectly. I first heard the story through Joan Borysenko rendition of it in her CD Album "A Woman's Retreat".

Who is Lilith, anyway? Lilith is the symbol of independent, rebellious, sexy, passionate, and powerful womanhood. She's Adam's first wife, according to the Ben Sira. Lilith is Adam's equal and they fight over which position to have sex. Lilith demands to be on top and Adam refuses her. Adam claims that she is only fit to be on the bottom. Then Lilith takes off and leaves the Garden of Eden to have outrageous sex orgies with demons. Adam is then upset and demands that God return Lilith to the Garden. She's so bold...she even tells God to get lost. God then tells Adam that he has to make him a second wife...Eve. One day, Lilith returns to the Garden and finds she has been ousted and all hell breaks loose.

Using Lilith as an archetype, women and girls can get in touch with their fierce and wild side. It's okay to not be a "nice girl". It's even better if you have some real bitch in you. The Lilith archetype activated in a woman says "I'm gonna do whatever the hell I wanna do...f&*K u. If you are a woman and you need some help to break out of the "nice girl" syndrome...read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all parents, August 27, 2000

This review is from: Lilith's Fire : Reclaiming Our Sacred Lifeforce (Paperback)
As the parent of a 12-year-old daughter, I was very pleased to be able to turn to this fabulous book to help alex grapple with some of her questions about why the world works in sometimes- mysterious ways when it comes to interactions between girls and boys, men and women. While no author can come up with all the explanations, Lilith's Fire provides an important start to the questioning process.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Reference, January 9, 2010
By
This review is from: Lilith's Fire : Reclaiming Our Sacred Lifeforce (Paperback)
I received Lilith's Fire as a gift and I have to say that it's one of the best gifts I've gotten this year. I've been researching Lilith for a while and I've been trying to find a good reference that would really tell who Lilith was and what she was about. This book fits that. The author writes about Lilith in a positive light and talks about her true nature, not that of a demoness (which she is not). I really enjoyed this book and I recommend it to anyone who is trying to seek Lilith and find out what this Goddess represents.
