PreSchool-Grade 2-When a group of BIG robots with BAD attitudes destroys his playground, Lilliput 5357 jumps into his rocket racer and begins his quest for a safe place to play. Each place he stops is not quite right, being TOO NOISY! TOO STINKY! or TOO SPOOKY! Finally, just as he is about to give up all hope, a pair of friendly ASTRO GUYS arrive in a flying saucer to save the day. They beam the forlorn yellow robot to a distant planet of friendly ROBOTEERS, where he has A LOT of fun! The brightly colored, imaginative photographic collages featuring a retro collection of the wind-up tin toys, along with strategically placed geometric shapes and appropriate sound effects, provide a lot to look at. Although the story is a bit awkward, the clever combination of old-fashioned charm and futuristic zing in the illustrations gives this title a curious appeal. Future fans of Ray Bradbury or the Star Wars saga will enjoy the eclectic sound effects, like Bippity Zippity Beep Beep Beep, and will identify with Lilliput 5357 as he flies away on his adventure. Most young readers, however, might prefer a more humorous story about robots, such as Bob Staake's Hello, Robots
