TV is as expected with little antenea. But, with camera or other input, the picture is super clear. Would buy another one of I needed too. Very satisfied. Thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars Super value!, October 26, 2011
This review is from: Lilliput 569gl-50np/ho/y 5" On-camera Hd LCD Field Monitor w/ Hdmi in Hdmi Out Component in Video in Video Out+hot Shoe Mount+du21 Battery+battery Charger BY viviteq inc (Electronics)
Good value being defined as getting something worth a lot more than the selling price. The LCD viewfinder on the Sony HVR-Z5U is too small when shooting action. We covered a football game and taking time to compose each shot is something that just doesn't happen as opposed to when shooting an interview or product presentation. Channel 70 Productions looked at a number of small portable monitors in the 5-7" range. First we tried a 7" TV's with composite inputs. All had horrible picture quality. A friend from a production house loaned us a SmallHD 6" monitor that was nice, but runs nearly $1000. Ouch! A friend in London then mentioned the Lilliput and went on to sing its praises. Was he ever right.

The Lilliput arrived the morning of an equestrian event shoot where there would be many fast moving scenes. Having the Lilliput made our videography ten times easier. No exaggeration. A big image, sharp enough to cause incision injuries, was a pure joy to watch when using the HDMI connection. Even in daylight, the image was bright and the contrast perfect. The sun shade was also a big help.

We used a Sony NF-P5XX battery to power the Lilliput. It's very convenient being able to use the same batteries our Sony cameras use. We also just picked up a LED spotlight that also uses the Sony batteries, so manufactures have their thinking caps on and functioning. The shoot was just under 2 hrs (45F temperature) and that battery was sufficient for the task. Later, we'll put it to the test to see how long it will really last. The adapter plates to mount either Sony or Canon batteries (see Lilliput's list for compatible batteries) are included with the monitor.

Mounting the Lilliput on the Sony's hot shoe is not the best way to go. Too much movement. Our physics major/boom operator also kept mentioning 'arm' and 'moment' that broke down to saying even the little bit of weight of the Lilliput would act like a lever of sorts and might harm the hot shoe/mount on the camera. And, it did wiggle some. We had a clamp/screw L mount with a 1/4" stud we attached to the top of a tripod leg and this worked out great. Exact mounting and positioning will take some tweaking.

Despite the monitor including a HDMI cable, you'll want to buy something with a smaller diameter and with more flex. The cable included is a super heavy duty industrial model and can put too much strain on one or both connectors.

Overall, this monitor is a steal compared to what else is out there and is a real find.

Here's a video manual of sorts I found very informative. [...]

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality, good value, October 2, 2011

Excellent image on this LCD screen. The monitor takes a little time to hook up to a HDMI input but once it locks in this is a solid monitor. The monitor comes with action-safe and other options that will come in handy for video shooting. The sound is awful but that's not why most people will use this monitor. The included accessories are good although the included heavy-duty HDMI to Mini HDMI cable proved to be too heavy for my Panasonic GH2 camera's connection and it pulls out. That's more of a design flaw with the camera then a problem with this monitor. The RGB inputs don't have this problem of course. The hood is a great addition. Hopefully this monitor will last a long time, that's the one question when you purchase from unknown brands.
