Book Description

Jack’s story isn’t pretty. He’s suicidal, depressed, and he uses meaningless sex and alcohol to survive. However, the story is about finding light in the darkness, but sometimes the road there isn’t always easy to walk.

“No one tells you about pain. They tell you that it hurts, that sometimes it’s consuming. What they don’t tell you is that it’s not the pain that can kill you. It’s the uncomfortable numbness that follows, the weakness in your body when you realize your lungs may stop taking in air and you just can’t exert enough energy to care. It’s the way taste and color and smell fade from the world and all you’re left with is a sepia print of misery. That’s when the shift starts – the movement from passive to active. I fall asleep, hoping that the morning will bring back the pain. At least the pain is a thing.”

I’m a plague, a cancer. My mom is dead – and my father is in prison for it. I survived high school because college was my way out. I needed to escape, to get away from my family and the people who tortured me, but it hasn’t grown any easier.

I don’t pretend that I’m a good person. I drink far more than I should, and I use my best friend, Alana, because together, we thrive on destroying each other – as well as the parts of us we hate. I don’t believe in love, but sex is fun and it also makes me feel something.

The morning I see Lily, the beautiful princess who smells inexplicably like strawberries every time I see her, I realize I’m in trouble. I should hate her. I want to hate her, because the alternative terrifies me. However, as she continues to crash into my life (often literally), I can’t avoid feeling something that is the one thing I swore I would never feel. I can’t fall in love, because people like me don’t live in a world where love saves anyone.

She just won’t go away, though, and I don’t know if I can keep running. The voices and the darkness hover over me and they threaten to bring me back to the safety of my hate, but the stupid scent of strawberries lingers on the horizon, as something like hope.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Lily of the Valley completely blew me away! The author did one helluva job conveying Jack's thoughts I wasn't prepared to be gutted! An emotionally complex read that delves into the an event so horrific as well as depression so deep that Jack doesn't feel he is worthy and hardly can see the good in himself that will leave you reeling. I loved that the author didn't take the easy road with this book.

5 HEARTBREAKING STARS read that has me wanting MORE ~ I want Jack & Lily's story to continue! For all Jack has been through when you read the way he felt about Lily and what he does for her you will want a Jack of your own! That boy definitely took a piece of my heart with him when I finished reading it!

This is a must grab ASAP and read series! Grab tissues, vodka, chocolate heck whatever is your comfort vice cause you will need it before you are through with this phenomenal read!" - Stick Girl Book Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars JACK! JACK! JACK! September 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
If you've read Forget Me Not, then you have already fell in love with Jack, I didn't think it was possible to love him even more, but YES IT IS! Oh Jack!!!

Jack may be the ultimate bad boy, with his tattoos, piercings and sex god moves but he is also damaged. Jack's had a hard life, and on the inside of his hard confident exterior is a vulnerable, heart broken boy. Sarah has done a brilliant job of capturing Jack's feelings, making your heart break for him as you read him struggle to deal with the feelings he has for Lily and the troubles from his past. For the first time sex means something more to Jack than just an escape and that makes Jack feel both elated and terrified. Lily of the Valley will take you on a emotional ride, from heart breaking to toe curling; the sex is HOT and I mean HOT!

I really liked Forget Me Not but I LOVED Lilly of the Valley, this is more than just a college romance, this is a story about how two lost people can feel whole together.

This is a must read! Sarah's a brilliant author and I look forward to reading more of her work! GO FALL IN LOVE WITH JACK!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite of the series so far... September 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Jack...I love Jack! I just want to wrap him up in a big hug and tell him how worthy he is and how beautiful his life will be...it was such a raw and emotional read that I felt was pretty accurate describing how coping with depression can be and feelings of hopelessness. Jack knew his ways of coping were wrong...sex with Alana and others and drinking to drown out the sorrow, but it was all he knew. Watching him come to the realization of his feelings for Lily and opening up to her and letting her see the real him was just beautiful...and Lily helping him realize that he was worthy of being loved. The author did such a great job because I swear at times I could actually physically "feel" the love between Jack and Lily.

Now on to the sex...Jack put the SEX in sexy...the sex between Jack and Alana...Jack and Lily...Jack, Alana, and a man she picked up in a bar...and finally sex between Jack, Lily, and Alana...that's a lot of sex going on! Holy hotness sex! Even with all the sex, there was a solid story that was very well told and executed.

I hope there are more books in this series...hint hint Sarah Daltry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read September 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Just finished Lily of the Valley. I loved it. I love Jack. His story is so heart-breaking and emotional. He has a very damaged past but finally learns to forgive and to love. The writing is so real that you feel the pain he feels and go on the emotional roller-coaster ride right along with him. There are so many real life situations that a lot of people can relate to, like suicide, loving someone who doesn't love you, dysfunctional families, and college life. Having Jack's POV was great. Read Forget Me Not, where you will first meet and fall in love with Jack. Thanks Sarah for another great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Storytelling September 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Author Sarah Daltry has an amazing grasp on psychology and weaves it into her story expertly. She explores the dark side of human emotion and suffering with complex characters such as Jack and Alana, but also knows how to balance the light but solid character of Lily without letting her get washed out in the fray.
As for sexy - this series is red hot!
Great story.

5.0 out of 5 stars such a hot scorching story! September 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story was about Jack, a guy in college just trying to forget his past. A past that was horrific. He doesn't believe he's worth anything and definitely not worthy of love. He spends his time drowning In liquor and Alana his best friend with a lot of benefits and avoiding feeling like he wants to end it all. He meets the lovely Lily and he's lost to her, something about her makes him want to,be better, but she doesn't want him, at first. She's taken. By soon the force that is drawing them in does and it is white hot. All I can say is Whewwww! This is a must read, it is a highly emotional and steamy read! I couldn't put this one down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect! September 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really liked Forget me Not but this one had me crying. I am totally heartbroken over Jack's life. He has always believed that he was going to end up like his father, the man who killed his mother. When he sees Lily, he knows she is too innocent and out of his league. Just the smell of her shampoo triggers something inside of him and he is not sure what the feelings are. Reading Jack's POV has really helped me understand him in the first book. Jack will take you through all his heartache and pain and you can't help but hang on for the ride. If you haven't read Forget Me Not and Lily of the Valley, you should, it is a great story, with Lily and Jack's POV. You will enjoy it. Great job Sarah Daltry and I am looking forward to more from her. I loved it.
