Comfort and Heartbreak,

I have owned this CD for 10 years now, and I only play it occasionally-- like one only pulls out the most nostalgic and precious family photos at special times. Matthews' voice is both warmly comforting and heartbreaking at times. "The Day You Went Away" is in my Top 5 of songs that will make me tear up every time, and it is the song with which an ex introduced me to Wendy Matthews, and I can think of very few songs that so precisely capture the pain and loneliness of love lost. Her cover of "Love TKO" is perhaps the most soulful rendition (though her voice remains beautifully fragile) of this composition I have ever heard. Although there is definitely folk, soul, and pop flavours to the music, Matthews' deft voice is beyond labels. Buy this CD!
