5.0 out of 5 stars Snowy: Elegant and Etherial Dreamscapes, August 22, 2002

Combine the soft, breathy delivery and etherial moods of Julee Cruise with the hip, jazzy beats of Morcheeba and the production sensibilities of George Martin (in the the psychedelic era) or, perhaps more appropriately, the mid-career production and arrangements of the Cocteau Twins and you begin to get a sense of the musical territories covered by Snowy on this lush and beautiful debut recording. This is a sparse, subtle recording in which almost every part is clear and foregrounded in the mix; consequently, few parts are lost in a wash of sound. Instead, the well-crafted songs, Evenson's compelling, upfront vocals and melodies, and a variety of interesting ambient textures claim their own spaces within this ambitious and self-restrained group of songs. I would highly recommend Lilywhite to fans of the aforementioned bands as well as fans of other 4 A.D. bands and folks drawn to well-conceived, modern ambient music and subtle psychedelic projects. This is definitely music for low-key and contemplative moods and, thus, it is not for everyone or for every occasion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional and Poetic, August 27, 2003
This review is from: Lilywhite (Audio CD)
I am a big fan of Aimee Mann and a friend of mine recommended I try this CD.
I quickly fell in love with this CD and, lately, I am listening to this CD in addition to Aimee Mann's "Lost in Space" (another nice album).
Snowy's songs are filled with emotion, poetic lyrics and "ghostly vocals".
My favorites are: Lilywhite, Let it Go and Surf Song.

4.0 out of 5 stars Music you can sink into, July 14, 2005
This review is from: Lilywhite (Audio CD)
I bought this CD last year and didn't give it the listen it deserved ... I've recently returned to it and highly recommend it. Snowy is a kind of dark and shimmery mutation of Portishead, Lisa Germano and Mazzy Star (and yet totally unique). On first listen many of the songs sound similar ... give this a try a few times to really let it sink in. The music manages to be both subtle and majestic ... the songs that stick in my head the most are "Three a.m." and "Candlenight." I love the cover art as well. If you like sad, dark, gothic, but hopeful (and not too hardcore) you will get into this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare and Undiscovered, May 15, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Lilywhite (Audio CD)
Very rarely do we have the opportunity to experience "the real thing" musically. Bonni Evensen offers the listner that rare confuluence of deeply emotive writting with subtle, dreamy musical landscapes. If the title song "Lilywhite" does not bring tears to your eyes then you must be made of stone. This is late night listening by the fire or driving on some lonely stretch of desert road.

It is always fun to discover the undiscovered, it is breathtaking to unearth that rare gem... and a rare gem awaits you with Snowy.
