Book Description

April 2002
Has the world of diapers, endless peanut butter sandwiches, potty chairs, and sibling squabbles reduced you to incoherent sobbing?

Are you convinced that, if enough time goes by, you will have completely forgotten how to hold adult conversation?

And, in the midst of the daily chaos in your home, have you ever felt completely, irrevocably alone?

Welcome to MY LIMA BEANS ARE ALLERGIC TO MY SPOON, a witty, poignant, and wonderfully irreverent collection of essays on life as a stay-at-home mom. Inside the pages of this book you will find everything from pregnancy to postpartum blubber; from fussy eaters to lost toddlers; from bedwetting to much-needed romantic get-aways: all persented in humorous, down-to-earth language that will make you laugh and cry at equal turns. Most importantly, you will discover, through the author's candid portrayal of her own struggles and triumphs, that you are most definitely not alone.

Grouped by subject, the essays in MY LIMA BEANS ARE ALLERGIC TO MY SPOON are short and easy to read -- perfect for the busy mom who barely has a minute to herself! Open the book and start reading anywhere. You will immediately feel as though you have found a champion for your cause -- an advocate for all stay-at-home moms -- a cheerleader for one of the most tired-yet-happy groups of women on earth.

MY LIMA BEANS ARE ALLERGIC TO MY SPOON will leave you feeling encouraged, befriended, and understood. At the end of the hardest day, the message within these pages will remind you that you are doing something very important -- and that you are not going crazy after all!

About the Author

Jill Schafer Boehme first saw her words in print at the age of eight when, through the influence of a supportive teacher, some of her poetry was published in a local newspaper. After receiving a Bachelor of Music degree in 1987, Jill spent time working as a daycare teacher, administrative secretary, and elementary music teacher, before joyfully abandoning the work force in 1992 at the birth of her first child.

Now a homeschooling mother of four, Jill has at last returned to her childhood passion for writing. Through her highly anecdotal essays, she seeks to encourage all mothers who have chosen to stay at home, and who need a voice to both unite and affirm them. In choosing to laugh at herself, Jill hopes to bring laughter to countless others.

Jill resides with her husband and children amidst the rolling, green hills of Franklin, Tennessee.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loving Lima Beans!, July 3, 2002
By
This review is from: My Lima Beans Are Allergic to My Spoon (Paperback)
For any mother who needs a lift, some laughter, and the need to be understood, this book is a LIFE SAVER! The author shares a collection of stories from her own life as a stay at home mom. Not only is it something we can all relate to, but it will become a much needed source of inspiration for any woman who has or plans to have children. I found myself laughing, filling up with tears, and finally feeling like there is someone out there who affirms that motherhood is perhaps the most important role a woman can play. Any mother will find something they can relate to, sympathize with, or benefit from when reading this book. Jill Schafer Boehme is honest, real, and passionate. This book will be the perfect addition to your collection, whether you are a mommy, daddy, grandparent, or what have you. It may even have you eating your lima beans!

5.0 out of 5 stars Affirmation is the best therapy!! :), February 4, 2004

This review is from: My Lima Beans Are Allergic to My Spoon (Paperback)
I ordered a copy of this book because someone told me that it was a great read. Well, I normally purchase books and never get around to reading the entire book.
This one was different. I didn't want to put it down! I was so immersed in the stories, and I found myself laughing through one chapter, and crying through the next one. It was like I was writing some of the pages. I felt so affirmed on so many levels of Motherhood and of just being a woman in general. It was wonderful to see such rawness on paper. It feels good to know that we all go through these things and that we can talk about them, laugh about them, and learn something along the way.
I loved the book, and I can't wait to read Mrs. Boehme's next book.

This book is a wonderful collection of stories written in a personal, entertaining style. By sharing her experiences without reserve, the author reaches out to other stay at home parents to let them know they are not alone in their daily struggles and triumphs. I found myself laughing and crying at the same time. It is deffinitely a must read by anyone who is or will be a stay at home parent.
