4.0 out of 5 stars Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is terrific!, August 6, 1999
This review is from: Limbo: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
What a surprise to discover that this fine actress is also a TERRIFIC singer. The soundtrack is suitably moody, and MEM's sweet, smokey voice accurately captures the inner monologue of a woman who's lived "her way" -- older & wiser, no apologies & no regrets (well, maybe just a few <g>).

LimboRemember David Straithairn from "Good Night and Good Luck"? Here he's the romantic lead, in a movie for intelligent people--a plot with lots of twists.

I remember when I first saw John Sayles's powerful and simbolic drama LIMBO. As soon as the final credits arrived in the screen, right after that devastating end, an unrecognizable Bruce Springsteen started to sing one of his mastearpeaces, LIFT ME UP. My God! What a song, and how wonderful was the Boss' capacity when it turns to be versatible. Sayles couldn't find a better way to crowd his best film. Impossible not to buy the soundtack, but also impossible was don't be surprised by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio's terrific voice. I liked Mary Elizabeth in movies like THE ABYSS and THE COLOR OF MONEY, but now she's one my favorites. Try to listen her singing BETTER OFF WITHOUT YOU... I promised it'd be something to always remember. Please, Mary Elizabeth, record an album now!
