Limbo, July 10, 2009
An absolutely interesting film; a young/early filmmaker who shows promise. The budget shows, but it's no major detraction.
A man is caught in a repeating loop, a single hour of his life; then various other clues about his predicament begin surfacing.
It's the type of movie that may disappoint some because it is not conventional storytelling or because it is not a blockbuster; too, because narrative storytelling is ultimately linear and because this forces a storyteller to choose an ending, some may be dissatisfied with the one presented here. I took the movie for what it was, and enjoyed it. Most, I think, would. Further, it's the right ending at the right time: Ambiguous finales are more and more in vogue nowadays, and this one leaves no too-painfully unanswered questions; all in all, it was quite appropriate to the tale being told.
As an aside, one of my *favorite* things about this movie was the way in which it was shot -- but I'm not sure I could find the words. There is a certain stylistic mode of storytelling in film (Peter Greenaway comes to mind, and some scenes from the movie Amelie) which seems to focus on objects or on tableaus "as if" they are objects, with a very clean, square, almost dispassionately Warholian view of what's being displayed in every scene: This filmmaker does that, at least in this film. I love it.
With the mild caveats above, recommended.

A cou PLA STICKS, September 22, 2006
This review is from: Limbo (DVD)
Got this movie yesterday and watched the whole dang thing with all its bonus material. What can I say - this movie gat a cou pla STICKS. The cinematography is amazing at times and the concept of the movie is thoroughly fasinating. I am glad to see the originality and creativity in Limbo, something which is currently lacking in the movie industry today and feel the Limbo team have done an AMAZING job, especially when you find out how much the movie cost to make...shhhhhhhhh...I'll keep quiet...but the bonus material on this dvd will reveal all.
The bonus material for me was what I really liked about the DVD, it contains, deleted scenes (with narratives as to why scenes were taken out), along with interviews and behind the scenes footage.
In short, this movie is a must buy, especially for aspiring film makers - it will highlight what is possible with a dream and motivation. I look forward to seeing future work from this there Thomas Ikimi - he clearly has an interesting career ahead of him and I wish him all the best.
