4.0 out of 5 stars A decent 'summary' of Foreman's EPs, November 14, 2008
By
This review is from: Limbs And Branches (Audio CD)
For people who prefer Cliff's Notes or even watching the movie version rather than reading classic literature, this album will suffice. However, rather than getting just a summary of Jon Foreman's 4 outstanding EPs (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer), I recommend that you go out and buy the actual EPs that these songs are from. Then, download the two bonus tracks for a buck apiece.

This album has a couple of songs from each of the first 3 EPs, and 4 from the final one (Summer). There are so many great songs NOT on this album, that I suppose this works as a way to entice people to buy the actual EPs. I do enjoy the two new songs (Broken from the Start and Over the River), though I would not place them among the 12 best songs that he has released over the course of the past year or so.

If you only have enough money for one album this year, this is the one you should spend it on. But if you can afford more than this, definitely purchase all 4 EPs. They are filled with creative, acoustic, multi-instrument, simple-yet-elegant songs, which are sung passionately and will definitely leave you with food for thought. Jon Foreman, the lead vocalist of Switchfoot, has definitely shown the world that he's got a real gift for writing and performing music to inspire a generation!

5.0 out of 5 stars Soothing voice to calm your nerves., October 30, 2008
This review is from: Limbs And Branches (Audio CD)
Jon Foreman's songs have so much soul and integrity. They are simple yet convey a very deep passion about music that is hard to come by nowadays. This is basically a selection from his 4 EPs plus 2 new songs. If you like this CD, you should definitely check out Fall/Winter & Spring/Summer (If you haven't done so already). He'll take you on a whirlwind of emotions from different seasons through his music.

5.0 out of 5 stars pass the good stuff, November 3, 2008

This review is from: Limbs And Branches (Audio CD)
This album compiles a year's worth of thoughtful songwriting and is more than worth a listen. It's pretty clear that Foreman is experimenting with different sounds (southwestern guitars, a dulcimer, background choruses, and ambient saxophones and French horns) but he that he aims at expression, not experimentation. I couldn't be more pleased with this album - an original sound with lyrical depth and melodies worth hearing twice that isn't out to impress.

5.0 out of 5 stars The culmination of the four EPs plus two amazing new songs, December 14, 2008
This review is from: Limbs And Branches (Audio CD)
Limbs and Branches is Jon Foreman's first full-length solo album, I guess you could say. Over the past year, he has released four EPs (one for each season), three of which I have listened to. His songs are beautiful and about as passionate as you'll ever hear in music. Limbs and Branches pretty much contains all the best of those four beautiful EPs and adds two new breathtaking songs. 'Broken From the Start' is simply stunning, and the opening gave me the strangest feeling listening it to the first time (in the dark, as a matter of fact). 'Over the River' is a song that has very good lyrics, he seems to be talking about how he has his hope placed in eternity in heaven, and how death has no hold on him. "Death, where is your sting? Your signet ring? Where is your power?" Beautiful lines.

In case you haven't caught on already, these songs are simply beautiful. I recommend you at least listen to them, and if you have the four EPs already then you absolutely must get the two new songs, because they are worth adding to anyone's music library.

This is truely a wonderful album.
A great collection for the 4 EPs that Jon released.
It has some of the best songs on it like "Your Love is Strong", "Instead of a Show", "A Mirror is Harder to Hold"
It is great as an album for casual fans.
Of course big fans like us will still get this despite having the EPs for the 2 extra songs on it.
"Broken from the Start" is definitely worth buying this album for.
Still purists should still buy the 4 EPs as they contain some great songs which are not included here like "Somebody's Baby" "Equally Skilled"
Still all in all a great album
Fans who are christians will also be able to get more out of the lyrics.
This doesn't mean you can't enjoy this album without being a christian
I love this album and I am not
This is very different from what Jon does in Switchfoot but in a good way

This compilation makes me cry. Listen to it very carefully, it has beautiful details. And the lyrics... Jon Foreman knows how to say what I'm feeling. He's a true poet.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Album, September 8, 2011

Some slower, more acoustic stuff, from Jon Foreman. Only one song was repeated from a previous Switchfoot album, and all the others are compiled off of four other EPs he's released over the years. For the money, it's a nice album and sounds great!

After hearing the song "House of God, Forever" last year, I'd wanted to buy it. I love Switchfoot, and I knew after hearing this song that I'd love Jon Foreman's other music just as much. Since I can't afford to buy all of his EPs, I decided to buy this cd. The more I listen to it, the more I love it! He has such a soothing voice and I love the stories he tells in each song. He kind of reminds me of my favorite musician, Matt Maher.

I definitely recommend purchasing this album-you won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Limbs and Branches: A Collection, January 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Limbs And Branches (MP3 Download)
If you are unfamiliar with Jon Foreman's genius solo material, this is a pretty good place to start. Although a lot of the best songs found their way to this release, it is not nearly complete. If you like what you hear here, don't hesitate to get his individual seasonal EPs. Songs such as "White As Snow," "Love Isn't Made," and "Revenge" are brilliant pieces of art that shouldn't be avoided just because they didn't make the cut for this collection. For a Jon Foreman fan, this release is somewhat redundant, save for the two new tracks, "Over the River" and "From the Start."

I honestly prefer his EPs individually in contrast to this release, but it's not a complete waste, especially for those who haven't heard Foreman's work.

If you have this and want more, I recommend his Fall and Winter.
