Milking Of The No Limit Dynasty,
This review is from: No Limit Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I love Master P's music and almost all No Limit Recording Artists, but this compilation is terrible! Not the compilation itself, but the people behind it. True, it's got all the hits "Make Em Say Ugh", "Down 4 My N's", "Ice On My Wrist", "Soulja Party" etc. But this collection, was just another attempt by Priority Records to make a fast buck. The record executives thought that since all of the U.S. remembered Master P/No Limit from the late 90's and that nearly all the albums are now out of print, they would sell millions of an overpriced 2 disc set, with only some hits and mostly fillers. Also the compilation mainly glorifies their top selling artists P, Silkk, C and misses out on a lot of their more underground artists like Young Bleed, who is only on 1 song! And yes a lot of hits are here, but with 200+ albums from the label, their would at least 10 volumes of this!
Another reason why they put out was because they were taking advantage of No Limit's unfortunate and very sad bankcruptcy. Priority has been wanting their money since they started in the early 90's and the day they went out of business, was the day jackpot happened for the others. Also, the unexpected and tragic deaths of Big Ed and Soulja Slim and the wrongful and corrupt incarcerations of C-Murder and Mac, really threw the label off. In the early 2000's people like Mystikal, Mr. Serv On, etc. dropped from the label to seek other goals. Leaving behind hundreds of songs for Priority to use for whenever they want. I'm surprised that Master P is so tolerent of them. So listeners, buyers and No Limit fans beware, all of this is a bunch of record label executives asking for your money. If you are a diehard fan, hunt down all the albums like I've been doing and make your own greatest hits albums. Don't support a big business, who takes advantage of a small business which was never treated right from the beginning.

What could've been an excellent anthology falls short due to some glaring omissions,
This review is from: No Limit Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Released by Priority Records in 2006, This lengthy double-disc [and overpriced] set has many of the artists and hit songs that helped establish No Limit Records as arguably the most lucrative rap label of the late 90's and for that reason, This makes a great purchase for those new to No Limit's music. But for those of us who were fans of the label during its heyday, This collection comes with a huge grain of salt. For starters, How could you assemble a No Limit greatest hits collection and manage to leave out Master P's classic Mr. Ice Cream Man but yet manage to include wack songs like Silkk The Shocker's That's Cool and Kane & Abel's Shake It Like A Dog [which interestingly enough was a song they recorded AFTER they left No Limit!]?? Surely, one has to wonder why classics like Steady Mobbin's If I Could Change didn't show up on this set. Of the songs that did make the cut on this collection, The highlights would definitely have to be I'm Bout It Bout It, NL Party [Best song on here], Assassin, Down 4 My N's, No Limit Soldiers II, Y'all Ain't Ready Yet, Gangstafied, and Take My Pain. There is some truly classic material on display here and for those who are currently being raised on current southern rappers like Waka Flocka and Gucci Mane, This set will do some good to show where guys like Gucci got their inspiration from. The longtime No Limit fans will no doubt want to avoid this set as there's simply too much good material missing here. When you listen to this collection, You'll wish that the people at Priority would finally re-release more of the original albums from No Limit's back catalog as there's certainly some gems that don't even receive any songs on this collection [Like C-Murder's Life Or Death for instance]. While the No Limit soldiers weren't the greatest rappers around, They certainly knew how to provide good basic gangsta rap that had a southern twist to it. Let's hope that a volume 2 of this collection is made one day since it would've been nice to hear more of guys like the late Big Ed, Steady Mobbin, and the late Soulja Slim. If possible, Try to buy this collection used at a cheaper price otherwise you can keep on shelling out the cash on here for classics like West Coast Bad Boyz Vol. 1 and Down South Hustlers [WHICH STRONGLY NEEDS TO COME BACK IN PRINT ASAP!].

This review is from: No Limit Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This is a good CD for fans of southern rap. The CD features artists for No Limit, when it was one of the top rap label years ago. The artists featured are Master P, Snoop Dogg, Silk the Shocker, C-Murder, Mia X, and many more. This is a CD for fans that were really into No Limit back in the days.
